You may recall the lovely pics of a 1934 Chrysler Desoto I took and featured on these pages earlier in the thread; well, during that time, DeSoto had a smaller "junior" model of it's own....in fact, DeSotos ONLY came in Airflow trim (While Chrysler also sold more conventional cars in their showrooms). As you may recall; early build problems and a nasty and unfair series of GM anti-Airflow ads helped to kill what was arguably the best car of its time (and at least 5 years ahead of what anyone else was building); and put DeSoto into a tail spin that it never quite recovered from; the "buyer's market" after WW2 helped DeSoto to live on for a little while but, the Airflow debacle had opened a fatal wound in the company.........it took 25 years but, DeSoto would dissapear forever in 1961.

Here is a 1934 "senior" model CHRYSLER Airflow; for comparison.....I can't say for sure but, it looks like it may be the same car (now restored) that I took all those pictures of, in a used car lot, in 1987!

The restored car is somewhere in Canada, so, this may bE the very same car, more than 20 years ago VVVV

The Deusenberg was THE classic American car of the first half of the 20th century....the chassis alone was close to $5000 in the 1920s!!!
You bought the chassis , then had a body custom made for it....most owners had them built in the designs the company itself supplied, but, some of them were true one-offs, a car you could truly call one of a kind!!!

And finally, the haunting Coupe Simone, built in 1937, when the company was breathing it's last!!! (I love it's sleek art deco lines, but, it's probably not for everyone)

The Duesenberg looks like a big lumbering luxury car, but, with such advanced features as a dual overhead cam supercharged straight 8 , this car was really a well-disguised race car able to do 120 mph, at a time when 80mph was considered impressive; the car could even sound like the racer it was under the skin, if the owner flipped a switch and disconnected the sound baffles!!!
