I have been watching this show since it began (mainly because I had seen
Kaley Cuoco on the series CHARMED), and I hadn't noticed until now that the two main characters are named "Sheldon" and "Leonard." I wonder if they were named after the late actor/producer Sheldon Leonard or if it is just a coincidence.

Yes, Creator/Producer, Chuck Lorre, named Sheldon and Leonard after famed producer Sheldon Leonard, and Penny is named after Penny Marshall who is the sister of famed sitcom producer, Garry Marshall. A little Big Bang Theory trivia. :)
