I got my season nine set today, checked first ep, and the "I Dream of Jeannie" theme song is missing. Will be posting more edits here as I watch the episodes.
The Blues Traveller theme IS present in all episodes.
Missing coda: Black & white scene where Bev is singing in "Someday my Prince will come" which explains why this episode runs short at 20:44 (the singing number was about 2 minutes long originally, replaced by a 40ish second black screen.
The "That Girl" theme is edited out from "Satan, Darling"
The ending of "Hoi Polloi meets Hoiti Toiti" has a split black screen with credits rolling, but thats the way its supposed to be. (left side has a spoofed 'ad' for pilots, while right side has the credits)
Music in "Home for the holidays" replaced with instrumental "Silent Night"
Missing coda: The video of the hermit crabs in the end of "Hit the road, Jack"
Music changed in the end of "The Miracle" *sad*
That's all I noticed.

The extras are two clip shows with Roseanne, and 1 video commentary.. with Roseanne.

Is the finale presented in its original one-hour format, or broken up into two parts?

Damn, there's a lot of edits. And they're all music related. You'd think Anchor Bay would have enough money to get some of these rights. I would have wait a few more months or so to get the episodes unedited with full music. These are minor songs too that should have been easy to buy. Anchor Bay is definitely going the cheap route these days.
Please tell me the video commentary is on the finale. For one of the greatest series finales of all time, they should have included video commentary for it. And, are the interviews just clip shows, or are they actualy interviews? For paying $30 for this set, I want things to be good. I have payed less than $20 before for better quality sets.

While I'm not happy about these edits I am happy that they only replaced the music for the end of "The Miracle" and didn't edit out the whole scene.

The rights were not cleared obviously. Too bad. I am glad that the scenes were not edited. I would think that Bev's scene would have been kept.

Two.
The video commentary was for "The Truth be Told" I think, guess I could check again.
The clip shows features interviews with Roseanne.

Two.
Ugh....Now see, that is uncalled for. Is there's some kind of song on the 22 minute mark that they're cutting away from? What is AB's problem???

Part 1 of the finale ends with Darlene and David in the kitchen, then it cuts to the end credits (just a still shot of them in the living room) with the theme playing), so its not really anything missing.

I know. I was being sarcastic...But what is the point of splitting the episodes up? I always thought Anchor Bay would use the episodes as aired, for the DVD's.

This set is unbelievable, and so is AB. You'd think for the last season, they'd go all out, and try to do their best to make us happy. But this set is probably the worst one yet, considering the completely adited season 1 episodes. No commentary on the finale, the finale broken up (which makes me wonder if that is even edited), and bogus bonus features. Plus, the cover art sucks, and their are so many music edits where AB could have easily cleared them.

I think these edits are disgraceful, however, Anchor Bay/Starz Home Entertainment isn't to blame; the blame lies with Carsey Werner. Through emails with AB/SHE, they've said several times they only release what they're provided by CW. They have no say in how the episodes are presented (uncut or edited). So that means CW were the ones that provided the syndicated episodes for the first season and were also the ones who didn't want to spend the money to clear the rights to the music they've edited out of the Season 8 and 9 sets.
CW's also responsible for not providing the blooper reels for seasons 2-9. I emailed AB/SHE a while back with a suggestion - that they release a special disc called "Roseanne - Blooper Edition" (similar to the "Halloween Edition") that would include all the blooper reels of the series and AB/SHE loved the idea but said the reason the blooper reels stopped being included after Season 1 was because they weren't provided any by CW. There's no excuse for them not being on the sets. We KNOW they can be put together since so many bloopers were found for the FIRST SEASON. It seems only logical if so many can be found for the FIRST season, that they DEFINITELY have them for the rest of the seasons; CW just needs to put forth the effort to find them. I'm hoping they HAVE the blooper reels and are just saving them for a possible "Complete Series" release in the future (but I won't hold my breath).
And speaking of a possible "Complete Series" release - I have one thing to say to Carsey Werner in case we get one: AT THE VERY LEAST, SEASON ONE BETTER BE UNCUT. If it's not, there'd be no point in even releasing a complete series set. SHOW ROSEANNE FANS YOU CARE ABOUT THEM, AND THE SERIES.

Money, money, money ... I wonder if they could clear that song :D
Truth be told, for a show like Roseanne, music is the last thing that bothers me ... I do mind when they take scenes out thought to get around music, that is bad.
I think the reason why we don't get blooper reels any more, or any "original content" is because they'd have to pay all the actors again ... if you look through clips on the first season, they blurred out all the extras so they didn't have to pay them but they can't really blur out Roseanne and Dan! Its not even a case of Roseanne saying don't pay me, just get a good DVD out, with contracts and guilds etc, I don't think that could happen. Throw in the music that was used a lot more in these last 2 seasons and they could be making a loss.
I don't know if Carsey Werner are extremely cheap or the sets simply don't make enough money. They're rather low priced ($25) and as the show goes on there are bound to be less people buying them (especially in the case of this season I imagine).
DVDs are a business, Carsey Werner is still an independent company, I don't think they could swallow loads of costs that easily on some DVDs.

Well said. It sucks, but it's true. And while I fully understand releasing the series on DVD is all about business and making money, I just wish companies like Carsey Werner cared as much about the quality of the sets as they do about the financial benefits of releasing them.
I'm just saying, would it have killed them to spend a little extra money to clear the music if it meant putting out a higher quality set they can feel more confident in that would please not only casual viewers but the hardcore fans and DVD collectors as well? I mean, come on! Carsey Werner is a huge company with lots of money. Roseanne airs at least 4 times a day where I live so there's no telling how much money CW makes on Roseanne in syndication. I don't know...
The whole "music issue" - while fully understandable - just irks me, especially with sets in recent years we thought we'd never see because of music costs being released at reasonable prices with all original music. To name a couple: Freaks and Geeks & Saturday Night Live <-and those were OLDER songs used on those shows.

yeah, music on Roseanne I could care less about. But, when they start taking out every single song used in the season, it's just a sign of being cheap. Carsey-Werner and Anchor Bay should be making tons of money from Roseanne, plus Three's Company. They chould not be giving us cheap, edited quality of episodes at this point.

Another edit:
"Hit The Road, Jack" - Originally, when Roseanne is in the car and she flips through the radio stations, she comes across a song sung by a man with the lyrics: "Breaking up is hard to do" to which she comments: "You gotta be kiddin' me." The song is replaced with some other song sung by a woman with the words: "What if love has passed me by?"

You're kidding me! That's the thing that makes the scene funny! Without that song, the scene just seems too stupid for Roseanne. Boy, AB really screwed this release up badly . . .

Yeah thats obvious... i asked them if they'll make a redo of the series and Starz said many times they don't plan on it and stuff like that then i asked carsey werner and they said yeah but the msic is too expensive to have on the dvds.

Then Carsey-Werner really screwed us over this time-LOL. Seriously, I don't think there was one edit on seasons 2-7. Then for season8, we have an uncountable number of edits, and they try to pretend like nothing happened. It wasn't until people started noticing and complaining about the edits when they sent out a public announcement about it.

the part that I find most unforgivable is that the series finale is in it's two-part syndicated version, as opposed to being one hour long episode, as it originally aired

Both parts of the series finale run at about 22:18 so.. they dont suffer from syndication cuts at least.
