does anyone hate going to big-scale concerts?

I ask this because after my Police fiasco, I've realized I am going to stop going to concerts unless it's someone who is an absolute fave (say Prince, Bowie or Madonna). Unlike a lot of people, I go to concerts because I wanna hear songs I love, see an artist I like, etc.... but it seems like half the people at bigger arena/stadium type concerts I go to are more like drunken fools who just want a place to be publically drunk. I went to see The Police in July and these rowdy drunken teenage sluts and their boyfriends were being so loud and annoying and kept accidentally bumping into me and it started when the band began to perform the songs I really was waiting for (King Of Pain, Every Breath You Take, etc...). I paid money to see a band reunite after 24 years, not to deal with a bunch of brats with no respect for anyone besides themselves. After that, I decided that these types of people almost always suck the fun out of a concert. There were some rowdy people at the Prince concert I saw, but my seats were so good (I was 30-40 feet away from him when he'd come to his right), and Prince kicked enough ass that I was able to not let it hinder it, but with The Police, I seriously considered leaving. Plus, Prince is in my top three, The Police maybe in my top 50, but I still deserved to enjoy their show just as much and instead I ended up disappointed and not able to fully enjoy it.

This isn't the first time I've been to a bigger-scale concert and had people annoy me when I'm coming to see the band, it happened at The Rolling Stones and other times.

Does anyone else feel the same way I do, that a lot of the crowd who is there just to publically get drunk winds up sucking the enjoyment out of a show? From now on, there's only three artists I'll deal with going to see in concert in a huge stadium/arena type setting.

I wouldn't say I hate it, but it can definitely be annoying. I will still go to them, but I prefer smaller venues. I never understood why people pay top dollar to see a concert and then get totally drunk. I don't get the point. If you want to do that, stay home and drink. I was really annoyed when seeing Mariah last year, due to the fact that this couple in front of me were making out the entire time. The tickets were $120+ each, so again, I don't get why they would pay that much to be morons. Luckily, the majority of my concert experiences have been good ones.

I too prefer smaller venues - I've gone to a couple of arena concerts and the amount of people simply made me nervous (large crowds usually do).

it depends where you live. Where I live, half the people at a Stones/Police/etc... type concert aren't even fans but just there to get drunk in public. They just sit and start having really loud conversations, instead of being there to enjoy the music and see the icons in the flesh.

I divide my time between L.A and Las Vegas so the concerts there are amazing, but I love concerts held in New York, I think that vibe has the most energy.

I prefer the smaller venues, too. I just don't understand people who 1)can spend $7 on a small beer and 2)drink so much that they become a problem. It happens in arena & ampitheater shows, too. I've had beer spilled on me and I can't stand when people keep getting up to go get some more beer. I'd be curious to see what some of these people's blood alcohol level is at the end of the show.

I also don't understand why they drink so much to remember anything. Geez, I paid enough for the ticket, I want to be coherent!! Once in a while, I'll see somebody so drunk they're passed out. I don't get why it takes a concert for people to think they can drink as much as they want.

Dean, I'm sorry you had 2 bad experiences, especially of performers you like so much, but you shouldn't let what happened keep you from going to other shows. I go to shows pretty often and for the most part haven't had a problem. Once in a while I have to deal with idiots but there is no way it'll stop me from going. It's a shame you didn't spot somebody who was doing alcohol compliance. I've seen them haul off people!! Nice to see them doing their jobs.

Yeah, the first time I had lawn seats at amphitheater, it was also my last time having them. By the end of the night, my blanket was completely soaked in beer.

In summer 2002, I went with a friend to the Hall & Oates/Todd Rundgren concert at the Cleveland Tower City Ampitheatre (an outdoor venue). A couple of rows behind us, a couple of drunk guys got into a brawl and were dragged away by security! :eek: That was fairly early on in the show, but we had decent seats and the music was loud enough to drown the fighters out. The rest of the concert was smooth sailing.

not at a concert but i remember back in 1989 i had courtside seats to a blazers/bulls game in portland and while im trying to enjoy myself these 2 guys next to me sit down and start talking about investments and stocks and bonds yap yap yap the whole game it got very old very fast esp. since i was trying to see the jordan drexler matchup and came there for a sporting event not to hear about page one of tommrows wall street jurnaol

That just happened to me recently at a concert!! There were a couple empty seats behind me(actually one of them were mine, there was an empty seat in front of me, I moved to that). About a 1/3 of the way through the show, these 2 girls show up, and were standing behind me and they were like yack, yack, yack, talking really fast to each other, not even paying attention to the show. I'm not usually one for confrontation but I really love the band I went to see, and I wanted to hear the concert. Finally after a few minutes of this, I turned around and said "Are you going to talk through he whole show, because I didn't come here to hear you talk, I came to hear the band". It wasn't even their seats they were in!! One of the girls put her hand over her mouth as if to say "sorry". They stood there another few minutes, then they left. I mean why did you even come if you're going to talk through the show?

wow, I commend your audacity to do that, I would've loved to have done that at The Police and The Rolling Stones, just didn't have the guts to do it.

I once went to a New Kids on The Block concert and that experience was horrible. People kept bumping into me and bumrushing me to get to the band, I was knocked over and I hit my head HARD. I vowed never to go to a concert that deals with teenybopper girls and boy bands.:lol:
