Here's a more detailed description of episode 3.

Chuck and Kelly are getting on each other's last nerve on- and off-camera. But when Chuck's dinner date is called off, he runs into Kelly and Gracie having dinner at a restaurant near the station and awkwardly joins them for a meal. Chuck and Gracie hit it off and take a few stabs at Kelly while they're at it. Despite Kelly's disdain, she begins to think that having Chuck around might just be a good thing for Gracie. Back at the station, Marsh generously offers to help Gary create his own news anchor promo reel after his first attempt at a highlights video does not turn out quite the way he had hoped it. Meanwhile, Montana is distraught over her broken relationship, which she learned about on-air, and Ryan has to hide his infatuation for her and collect herself in time for the night's broadcast.

Sounds similiar to episode 2. I don't get why they're taking so much time on the daughter. Sure, we get newsroom scenes, but when it as about actual news, it isn't with Patricia or Kelsey.

Well, they introduced her in the pilot, now they have to develop the storyline which like it or not is at the center of the plot as she represents the unbreakable tie between Chuck and Kelly. I think we need to be patient with the first 5 episodes or so to better understand the characters, who they are and how they interrelate to eachother. In this way the show will then set the ground for funny stories among them.

According to me the issue with back to you is that when it was first announced everyone set different expectations about the show and how it should be like. Workplace comedy vs coworkers with a past and a family situation. Well, apparently it's writers had a different concept, they merged the two situations . I say, take a step back and try to enjoy the show, let them do their job and see how they will develop the show before we jump to deciding how the show should be like.

Also, the fact that they bought that New tek production system gives a heads up they they will focus a lot on the news. That will finally make a lot of people happy :) ...

p.s. Thanks Janice

I don't know if I should post this here so forgive me if I shouldn't.

Here's what TV Guide's Matt Roush said about BTY's second episode:

Prior to the premiere:

Back to Wednesday, and to a recommendation for those who’d like something to laugh with, as opposed to at: the second episode of Fox’s Back to You improves on the first, with several running gags that remind us how much we’ve missed the sort of physical and farcical humor that used to a staple of the sitcom format. In the 8 pm/ET hour, that’s my top pick.

Post premiere:

(For me, the funniest comedy program of last week was the second episode of Fox's Back to You, with very broad farcical humor that actually reminded me of Frasier at times, though not yet quite on that rarefied level. I have nothing against goldfish, but every time one died, I had to laugh. And the taser gag: a scream.)

I don't think it's similiar at all. There's no goldfish in next week's episode, lol. Is it possible that you were hoping for and anticipating a show similiar to Murphy Brown? I was watching the promos, and they stressed the relationship part between Chuck and Kelly. Personally, I like the balance of workplace and personal relationships.

For anyone who's interested, here's some promos.

Tonight's episode was enjoyable, The scene with Chuck and the Daughter at the dinner table making fun of Gracie which made her mad enough to leave the restarunt-LOL Then you had the scene with the Beefy News Director and weather girl which was very funny.

Let's just say I'm upset I didn't record tonight's episode

It was very funny, but underneath the laughs, it had serious undertones. You okay with that?

I loved the episode and laughed out loud a lot. Gary's demo tape was a scream. Lots of Fred Williard tonight, and you can never get enough of him. I'm warming up to Ryan (WHO SAYS FOUR AND HALF MINUTES?!!), lol, and Montana. The show is a laugh riot.

It wasn't overtly serious, but the subject at hand was serious, although treated in a humorous way. That whole long-last father storyline.

They did, and I understand what you're saying too. They kept it light and funny. Funny how Chuck backpeddled out of spending time with Gracie once he learned all the time and sacrificed involved.

I liked the Fish Story better, but this was an ok episode. I think it's too soon to have secondary storylines with the supporting cast only without having Chuck or Kelly as part of it. I mean the scenes with Gary and Marsh were funny but Montana and Ryan, besides some funny moments, fell flat.

The scenes with Kelly and Chuck are always funny. I laughed as crazy when Herb knoced on the door of the control room and Kelly yelled at him: what do you want? It turned out he wanted his insulin...lol..

I'm not too crazy about the little girl (the actress) not too much chemistry with Kelsey and Patty. On the other side they're such pros it's hard to match up with them. I'm nervous about the ratings though...you guys think they will hold up? I'm keeping my fingers crossed, it's gonna be one tough cookie..lol

I am hoping beyond hope the rating holds up, but with PD, on the schedule and the MLB playoffs starting today, it may hurt it.

I liked last week's episode best of the 3 so far, but they've all been top notch.

I'm actually glad they made Ryan like Montana. It gives them both an actual storyline, rather than just having them coming in with a funny line here, a funny line there. I mean, I'd be fine with them just "directing" and "reporting," but a lot of people here were trying to figure out exactly what they would be doing on the show. I believe some felt they were useless....And what better way to make secondary characters 'less useless', then to give them their own ongoing subplot? I like it.

I think the child actress is doing a good job. I'm sure she's trying her best. She should get better as the show goes on, as she gets used to playing off of Kelsey and Patty.

And I was never one to care about ratings. Of course, I get excited when my shows do well, but I've lost too many great shows over the last few years to pay too much attention to them, each week. I'm here for the ride. If the show is good, the show is good...AND THIS SHOW IS GOOD!

That's true...The serious stuff wasn't as out there as it was in the previous 2 episodes.

I was glad to see Chuck isn't just an arrogant guy. When it comes to Gracie, he really does want to know her. He wants to be her dad, even. I liked when he said "I made her laugh. I taught her that drinking game!" And "What the hell? Let's bring some joy into this kids life!"

It was also nice to see another side to Kelly. She wasn't as irritated by Chuck as she has been. I think she's starting to come around to him, for Gracie's sake. She sees that he does care about the kid. It was good that she told him she felt guilty for keeping him and Gracie apart all this time.

All in all, another good one. I can't wait for next weeks episode! :)

Next Week's ep is about Chuck trying to snatch the lead story from Kelly in a attempt to impress his old colleagues.

Maybe...I think it's interesting that it's placed after the episode we all just watched. The ending of tonight's show had Kelly and Chuck having a nice moment, and possibly becoming friends, and now they're putting them in competition with each other. Very interesting choice....It's kind of like a Tony/Angela or Sam/Diane thing (though not as heavy on the "relationship" aspect). They're probably going to constantly tease us with nice moments like tonights, then mix things up the folowing episode.

This is my favorite ep so far. I love the bond between Chuck and Gracie - they really seem to enjoy each other. Montana finally had a chance to develop (no pun intended) into a more vulnerable character. The sexy, vapid bit gets old quickly, and seeing Montana hurt over her boyfriend made me warm up to the character a bit. Gary to me seems more and more like a cross between Les Nessman of WKRP and Wojo of Barney Miller (because people always screw up his last name).

Great ep, folks! Keep up the good work!!
