I didn't think it was so bad for a pilot episode. But let's see how it goes; I don't think you can judge a show too well after just one episode. Let's not get too either excited or too disappointed just yet. I plan to tune in next Wednesday again.

I thought the pilot was pretty good! 8.5/10 Better than a lot of pilots I've seen. At first I was afraid that it wasn't going to live up to the hype, I didn't really laugh for the first 4-5 minutes, but then I was LMAO and I couldn't stop laughing for the rest of the show. Heaton and Grammer have great chemistry and both of them were hilarious in this episode. I've always liked Willard and he had a couple of funny lines too. The woman who plays Montana is beautiful and I liked that one scene she had with Gary. I didn't care for Ryan, however. He reminds me too much of Chris Farley. Hopefully that will change.
As for the huge spoiler, I won't give anything away, but it was really no surprise to me at all. I pretty much figured it out before the show aired.
This show has a lot of potential and I'm definitely going to watch it every week. :) I just hope it does well in the ratings.

Huge disappointment.
I should have known better. But I thought with Grammer and Heaton this show had a chance. But it's the usual cliched stuff about office sensuality and who's sleeping with whom. This type of humor is played out and stale. And on top of that, it's offensive to many.
Maybe they can do better, but it would be a HUGE leap from where they've started.
Everybody associated with this is supposed to be the best in the buisness -- director: James Burrows (Cheers) executive producer Christopher Loyd (Frasier) and of course Grammer and Heaton. If this is the best modern sitcoms can do, the art form is dying.

Seeing the Kid at the end was a shock and a disappointment. I expected a true work place comedy. The newsroom could have better a little better, and its no need for two wacky characters, one is enough. The Wacky Weather girl and News Director.

I thought that the show was pretty good compared to the other awful sitcoms that have been made the last few years.
The show wasn't all that funny but I will watch a few more because it's impossible to judge just after one show. It forsure will be funnier (hopefully).
I didn't laugh much at all although that line about how she came back from the dentist and pronounced the r's as w's made me laugh for about a minute.
I think that the idea of how they have the kid is interesting and this could be like a Step by Step delight in the workplace with less kids and more adult situations.
Overall, it was a decent pilot but showed there could be a lot more to come that could create a new hit-sitcom. 8.2/10

Fred Willard is great. They should let him say whatever the hell he wants.
I liked the pilot, but like you said Brian, I wasn't floored. It's so hard to establish so many characters and backstories ino 22 minutes.
But it is a good show. Grammer has infused his new character with a bit of Frasier Crane's pompousness, but that's a good thing.
I'll keep watching.

A lot of times the pilot isn't as good as future shows are mainly because they have to introduce all the characters. I thought Kelsey and Patricia were great together and I loved their one-liners. I haven't watched a whole lot of sitcoms the last few years but I'll definately keep watching this one. I do see a lot of potential.

If Kid Nation does better in the ratings and BTY ends up being cancelled, then I think they should just stop trying to produce new sitcoms. I mean if BTY can't cut the mustard, then nothing can. This show has hit written all over it, IMO. Great writers and producers, not to mention great acting. It will be really sad if a crappy reality show about kids living alone is a bigger hit than a show starring two of the greatest sitcom actors over the past 20 or so years. If people would rather watch that than BTY, then you know what, we deserve to have all these reality shows on tv. I can't count the number of times I've been excited about a new sitcom only for it to be cancelled and especially during the past couple of years where reality shows have dominated the networks. They're the main reason why a lot of sitcoms have failed, I believe. I apologize for the rant but I swear, if BTY isn't given a fair chance by Fox, I won't ever watch a new sitcom again.

I agree. Reality shows have taken the place of sitcoms on the schedule. They are cheap to produce and doesn't take any skill whatssoever. The only sitcom I watch is MNIE and I don't even watch every week because frankly it's hard to schedule one 30 minute show onto your schedule. If this show fails , I don't know what's going to happen to the sitcom. I guess they'll do more of the single camera comedies that critics are so in love with but the regular public is not. I miss the 70's and the 80's when sitcoms dominated the 8-10 p.m. nighttime schedule.

I just finished watching it and I must agree. Pilots aren't always the best, but I do see this is a show I will continue to watch. It was funny when it was Patricia and Kelsey. The whole latina weathergirl thing was very annoying. It seemed like her character was just thrown in to "balance" things out. Not necessary. Maybe they can eliminate her down the road.

Well said. That was my take on the pilot when I sat down and watched my tape about 45 minutes ago. Grammer & Heaton have plenty of chemistry, and if seven Emmys between them is any indication, their acting will be fine. Give us more Fred Willard! Those three are obviously the show's strength.
I wasn't floored by this pilot, but I wasn't expecting to be. I'm not judging the daughter until the character is developed more. The weathergirl...well, the less said about her, the better.
All in all - not bad! It shows a lot of promise, and I think it'll be a hit. I will be recording the show again come next week!

The Weather Girl has Oatmeal in her head
The producers have oatmeal in their head for having this character act the way she does. So annoying. I can see the character having a sexiness abt her, more like a Jennifer Marlowe type (WKRP) but this character is just......like Monika said, the less said abt her the better.

I thought they did a pretty good job of introducing characters without slogging down the dialogue & sacrificing laughs.
If you watch the reruns of past hit sitcoms, you can see the characters develop and find their comedic voice.
In the first few episodes of "Everybody Loves Raymond," Debra is barely more than the usual harried housewife. Marie Barrone was more like the stereotypical Italian mother figure.
The first episodes of "The Dick Van Dyke Show," Laura Petrie was a show-piece for her beauty, not the fine comedic actress she developed into. And the scripts weren't all that funny. The first year of the show, it was not a ratings hit at all. (Remember Rob Petrie's awful eye makeup in the first episodes? What were the makeup artists thinking?)
Even at this early stage, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be a big fan of this show. The writers will be tweaking the show and the dialogue as they go along. Let's hope this one will be around for a long, long time. And also, let's hope it's the regeneration of the traditional 30 minute comedies. One thing you can count on: If this show is a "hit," you can be assured, that the other networks will be jumping back on the traditional-sitcom bandwagon, looking for writers and stars to get their's on the air as soon as possible.

I'm sorry, but I actually liked the daughter. I liked the fact how she was only in the last scene of the show . . . that showed that Back to You is going to focus more on the newsroom and less on the daughter. The show was funny, and it new exactly when to be serious, which is what's needed in a sitcom. I loved all the characters. I think the sports guy really should be dropped from the cast (he really had no lines the entire episode) and Fred Willard's character should definitely be given a bigger role. Overall, a great Pilot, and I'm looking forward to watching next week.
It's also GREAT to see it beat out both Kid Nation. These days, when a sitcom beat out a reality show, you know it's gonna be around for awhile-LOL

I give the pilot episode an 8/10. There's always room for improvement. :)

It was only the pilot. They can't develop every single character in 22 minutes, especially the supporting players. She was a little useless in this episode, but I'm going to give her some more time before I make a final judgement on her. ;)
To be honest i think the "sexy Latina girl" is becoming a big cliche'.
But, like Buffyboy said, i too will wait and see what happens with her.

I think an 8/10 is appropriate. You can tell the season will get much better as it goes on. The whole father-daughter thing between Chuck and the girl will probably continue throughout the rest of the season, just to give us a continuous storyline, but I'm guessing most other episodes will be workplace comedy.
The show had a lot of great one liners. That's for sure. And, I love how Patricia gives such a suddlty (is that how you spell it) to her jokes. It makes her look very real. Great acting by both of them.
And I agree. The sweaty guy should go. He is such a bad actor. he overacted on almost every joke he had. The weathergirl also has no room to grow has a character. If she sticks around, she's just gonna be a ditzy latina for the rest of the series-LOL
