There is an episode where Becky comes home from her job as a grocery store clerk. She's very upset. Darlene mentions that Becky had been called a vile name by her boss at the store. The name was a four-letter word that was so bad that she didn't want to say it in front of D. J.

Darlene whispers it to Dan and Dan goes to the store to have it out with Becky's boss. He learns that Mark had already punched the boss and had gotten an apology.

I just, for the life of me, couldn't guess what the four-letter word was.

I came up with a list of four-letter words which were possible candidates for the lovely nickname Becky's boss chose for her.

cows

cook

call

calf

coat

core

cane

cone

And my favorite idea. . .

can't :D

Feel free to add to the list!

Well, he could have called her a boob but that's nothing to get excited over in the deragatory word sense.

And besides, D.J. said the word "boob" a few times in an episode, so that is out of the question.

I think it was all just a misunderstanding. Becky's boss said,

"Gee, Becky, you're so COOL!!!"

Jokes aside, I do think that it was the bad word referring to a woman's anatomy. Things which didn't make sense, though. . . . .

First of all, why didn't Becky's boss just fire her? No one deserves to be called that, but Becky did have a bad attitude there and I'm sure she could have been replaced.

Also, why didn't she just quit and go find another job? Lanford was a small town, but I'm sure that there were other jobs for teens there. This was just a little unrealistic.

Mark tells Dan that he punched the boss. I've been to a few grocery stores in real life, and I'm sure any employee who has been physically harmed or threatened would call the authorities. Mark's lucky he wasn't put in jail.

Well, it was obvious that Becky's boss did call her that name because he didn't deny doing it. He was nice to Becky AFTER Mark hit him.

I agree with you, although it is a tv show, no one would allow someone to just come into a place of business and let them get away with being hit. You know and I know that person would have called the cops ASAP. However, I do like how that played out; it was a "cheering" moment to know that bastard got punched for calling her that.

As for Becky looking for another job, I know Lanford was a small town, they always made it seem like getting a job was nearly impossible. However the town wasn't so small that it had a huge mall. I am sure there were plenty of places Becky could've found work. I guess she was comfortable where she was at because it was her first real job and she was saving money for a car.

That is just messed up.
If they would've said it to your face they would've been sorry.

I don't know if he would have called the cops. The cops would have asked him what provoked the hit, asked Mark why he did it and it's extremely likely it would have gotten back to management that he called Becky an inappropriate word and most likely would have been terminated because of it.

That brings up an entirely new question, though: Why didn't Becky report it to someone else? It could be construed as even sexual harassment and she would have been better served by going about it that way than telling Mark and Darlene.

When I saw this episode I thought the word he had called her was a sl*t.
