Back To You Has Zero Canned Laughter

With its multi-camera, laugh-track format, Fox's new show Back to You is as traditional as comedy comes — and stars two of the comedy universe's greats in Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammar. But everyone at press tour wanted to know: Is this the old-school sitcom's last chance? ''I don't think any single show should be the savior of any particular form,'' Liguori said. ''We think Back to You is a funny show. Kevin and I are not going to shy away from multi-camera comedies.'' Executive producer Steven Levitan, who admitted that he's ''sick of people trashing the comedy,'' made it clear that there's no such thing as a ''canned laugh'' on Back to You. ''We shoot the show in front of the audience, and we don't add laughs where there were none,'' he said.

Wow, is this good to hear. This really is the most traditional sitcom we've seen this decade. I'm sure this means a lot of people showed up at the tapings, or else they'd have to use canned laughter. The good news just keps coming for this show. I'm hoping it at least gets over 10 million for its Pilot, and I'm sure it will.

I now prefer comedies with NO laughter whatsoever ( most Canadian sitcoms are like this now )...that is NO canned OR live "yoks", you can actually enjoy the jokes and the characters dont need to make those phony pauses while they wait for the laughs to die down, that said, i do plan to give this show a chance, when it comes on this fall.......so long as its not up against Corner Gas, that is !
