How She researched her role for Back To You
A much blonder PATRICIA HEATON returns to series TV in "Back To You," a new FOX sitcom, premiering Sept. 19, in which she plays Kelly Carr, an uptight news anchor whose life takes a turn for the worse when she is partnered with Chuck Darling (played by Emmy Award winner KELSEY GRAMMER).
"Because Kelly is kind of a tough cookie like Debra was [on "Everybody Loves Raymond"], and especially [since she is] a newscaster, I felt it was important to have something soft about her. So the hair is a little softer. It is not so severe and the clothes are going to be a little more feminine," the actress tells ET.
One of the ways Heaton researched the role was -- get ready for this -- by watching videos of TV anchors on youtube.com.
"I love the hairdos and seeing the different markets," she admits. "You got your local New York anchors who -- the gals who really could use a little wax on the brow. Then you get all the way to the West Coast, and, you know, some of them look like hookers."
