I don't think "hated" by viewers is the right wording. This is for shows that never had that big of an audience, but were praised by critics, right?

there was a show called united states that aired on nbc in 1980 created by larry gelbart the critics lavashed it with praise but viewers roundly hated it. ive seen it and looking at it as both an 8 year old boy when it aired on nbc and a 20 something grown adult watching it in reruns on cable i actully had the same reaction at both ages . it was self indulgant crap of the highest oirder .at first i thought i didn like it because as an 8 year old it went over my head .so when ii saw that it was going to be rerun on cable years later i thought i would give it another shot it looked even wose than i rememberd but to this day critics say that it was a great show dont ask me why?

Commander In Chief. critics praised it, but it failed to develop a large audience.

I thought people liked it but the network switched days and put it on hiatus, then brought it back. It lost viewers due to all the switching.

Blame Fox for scheduling it when football games would run late

There was a show called "James at 15" which aired in the late 70s... very critically acclaimed, and I liked it as well... but I don't think it ever did very well in the ratings. But I'm thinking it did run for two seasons.. so I don't know if "hated" is the right word, but the viewership certainly didn't measure up to the critical acclaim.

The series was about a boy named James, who lived in Oregon...his father (a college professor) gets transferred to a school in Boston, so the family moves.

James' girlfriend in Oregon was played by Melissa Sue Anderson... (that'll give you an idea of why James didn't want to leave Oregon).

If MSA would have been the "new" girlfriend in Boston, that might have done wonders for the ratings !

But it was a good show, I thought, pretty realistic. And Kim Richards played James' little sister, and she was her usual adorable self!

I can't believe everyone has forgotten to mention Sports Night. According to TV Wasteland this show was going to be a future classic.

I also have to add Friday Night Lights to the list.

My favorite show of all time, Ed didn't exactly get a large viewership. It was lucky to get 4 seasons.

Scrubs never did horribly . . . and it's very popular in syndication.
