After a manipulative article by Mia Farrow which castigated Steven Spielberg as being an agent of propaganda for the Chinese government in a similar way Leni Riefenstahl was when she depicted the Berlin Olympic Games in the 1936 film "Olympia," Spielberg is thinking about dropping his voluntary role.

Farrow irresponsibly asked in The Wall Street Journal (DJ), "Is Mr. Spielberg, who in 1994 founded the Shoah Foundation to record the testimony of survivors of the Holocaust, aware that China is bankrolling Darfur's genocide?"

"Does Mr. Spielberg really want to go down in history as the Leni Riefenstahl of the Beijing Games?"

In response, Spielberg is contemplating stepping down from was simply an upaid position as an artistic advisor to the Beijing Olympics' opening ceremonies.

A few days after the Wall Street Journal allowed the propaganda by Farrow to be written, Spielberg wrote an open letter to Chinese President Hu Jintao asking that he would put more pressure on the government in Khartoum to allow a U.N. peacekeeping force to be inserted into Darfur.

Spielberg representative Andy Spahn says Speilberg is waiting for a response from Chinese authorities before making a decision.

Farrow later said her "intention was never to hurt" Spielberg's feelings, but rather to "move things."

This goes far beyond hurting Spielberg's feelings, she's publically lied about the man and made assertions that are so outrageous and ignorant that she is inexcusable. Spielberg should have sued her rather than capitulate to her ignorant ranting.

A idea of comparing China with Hitler's Germany is the first irresponsible statement she made. To connect the Chinese olympics in the same way Reifenstahl portrayed the Berlin Olympic games is nutty at best. To say they're bankrolling the massacre in Darfur is borderline criminal on her part.

The kind of psychological tactics and lies that Farrow used on Spielberg were nothing less than evil. She obviously had handlers in this to perform this vicious attack upon him.

For Farrow to say that Spielberg will go down in history as a Leni Riefenstahl was about as irresponsible statement as I've ever heard coming out of the myriad of nutty statements Hollywood personalities make. Where are Spielberg's friends now? Why aren't that striking back at the screwball comments of Farrow?

UNICEF, for whom Farrow is the Goodwill Ambassador, should ask her to step down and stop using the platform to viciously lie and attack people in an attempt to manipulate and destroy them.

Her comment that she wants to "move things," shows she's come to the fanatical stage where she'll do anything to aid her chosen cause, no matter what it costs.

This wacky nut needs to be taken out of the public arena. It looks like she's just trying to get her career started up again.

She should concern herself more with the fact that her child married her own father. She has made claims that Woody Allen molested their other children. Hey Mia, worry abt you and your kids ok?

Will Hollywood Boycott the Olympics?

(Studio Briefing) Despite continued international efforts to keep the Olympic Games out of politics, Steven Spielberg has withdrawn as artistic adviser for the Beijing Olympics, citing China's failure to use its economic clout to force a resolution of the crisis in Darfur. "Sudan's government bears the bulk of the responsibility for these ongoing crimes, but the international community, and particularly China, should be doing more to end the continuing suffering there," Spielberg said in his statement. China provides nearly all of Sudan's oil, thereby effectively "underwriting genocide," according to activists. Spielberg's decision could encourage other U.S. entertainers to boycott Olympics productions. In an interview with today's (Wednesday) New York Times actor Don Cheadle, who heads the Darfur activist group Not on Our Watch, commented that if actions like Spielberg's, "catch fire, and other people think of boycotting, or refraining, the cumulative effect could be something that potentially could change the calculation of [the Chinese] government."

Spielberg has the new Indiana Jones movie to plug in the next few months, so it's smart that he backed away from this whole mess.

China Responds to Spielberg

(Studio Briefing) Efforts by celebrities to use the Olympic Games to call attention to China's role in the Darfur crisis were repudiated by the Chinese embassy in Washington Wednesday. "As the Darfur issue is neither an internal issue of China, nor is it caused by China, it is completely unreasonable, irresponsible and unfair for certain organizations and individuals to link the two as one," it said in a statement. Activists, including director Steven Spielberg, who stepped down as the Olympics' artistic adviser on Tuesday, have insisted that by purchasing oil from Sudan, China is in effect underwriting the government's genocidal war in the Darfur area. Meanwhile, support for a boycott of the games appeared to accelerate Wednesday. In separate statements, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International asked corporate sponsors to consider whether they were making themselves complicit in genocide by backing the Olympics. Also on Wednesday, nine Nobel Peace Prize laureates, wrote to Chinese President Hu Jintao urging him to "uphold Olympic ideals" by pressuring Sudan to halt the carnage in Darfur.

Farrow Praises "Extraordinary" Spielberg

(WENN) Actress Mia Farrow has praised Steven Spielberg's decision to leave his position as artistic director for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The campaigning star has been urging Spielberg to quit the post for months, because of China's trade links with Sudan - where more than 200,000 people have been killed and more than two million turned into refugees by famine and war, since civil war broke out in 2003. And now Spielberg has taken the bold step, Farrow is thrilled: "In an extraordinary act of conscience, Steven Spielberg ended his involvement as an artistic director of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Let us hope that Mr. Spielberg's decisive action will influence other participants, sponsors and supporters of the Olympic Games to speak out. This is the time to increase pressure on China, the host country of the Olympics and, tragically, the underwriter of the Darfur genocide."
