The long-awaited sequel to the Bill & Ted movies is set to go into production this year--without the franchise's original stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, a film about time-traveling teens, propelled Reeves and Winter to fame in 1989, and was followed two years later by Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.

The Los Angeles Times reports MGM Studios and 360 Pictures have teamed up with horror producer Frank Mancuso Jr. to produce the third movie.

The Times reports both Winter and Reeves were interested in reprising their roles, but the latter's agent suggested it could ruin the Matrix star's career.

When "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" came out in 1992, I was hoping they'd do a third film. But so many years have passed. I would still like to see a third movie if it starred Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, and heck, knowing me, I'll probably check this new movie out.

Could doing another Bill and Ted movie really hurt Reeves' career. It's not like it's Tom Hanks going back to do "Bosom Buddies" or Robin Williams going back to "Mork & Mindy." It's another movie role and the only one that I've ever like Reeves in, to be honest. It's nice that Keanu Reeves was considering it though. I figured HE would be the one to not want to do it. At least he showed interest in it.

Bill and Ted were a big part of my childhood. My sister and I watched the first movie all the time. Plus I watched the cartoon and even the short-lived FOX tv show. I also collected the Bill and Ted action figures.

I'm surprised they didn't make a straight to video sequel in the mid 90s. Why do it now? Are they popular again, or something?

Not a good idea to try and restart this franchise without the two guys that made it awesome. I would have watched a third with the original Bill & Ted, but yeah, if they do it with two other guys it basically is just...bogus.
