Cause And Effect
Starring Jonathon Rhys-Meyers as Butchie Holden, a 28-year-old young man with a past filled with bad decisions, resentment, and regret. Here's a bit of a background story about Butchie Holden's life. Butchie became a father at the ripe age of 15, when he had gotten his then 19-year-old girlfriend, Michelle Hayes (Natasha Lyonne) pregnant. Michelle and Butchie decided to raise their son, Jesse together, while living with Butchie's parents' home as he finishes up high school and spends his weekends and summers working in factories for extra money. On Jesse's 4th birthday, Michelle kissed Jesse goodbye as she then fled to Guadalajara to live with her new drug-dealer boyfriend. Butchie was left to take care of Jesse all by himself, after being kicked out by his parents after turning 19 himself. Butchie is offered a helping hand by his younger sister, Rhiannon Holden (Mandy Moore), who loves her nephew Jesse dearly. When Butchie turned 21, he learned he had gotten his sister's childhood best friend, Amberlyn Jacobs (Joanna Garcia) after an one night of pented up, heated passionate (yet meaningless) sex--who was only 16 at the time. Amberlyn and Butchie had their daughter, Sophie and decided to raise her together yet separated (seeing how they aren't truly in love). Currently, Butchie lives in his Tucsan, Arizona duplex, where he lives with his 13-year-old son, Jesse (Alexander Conti), and his 7-year-old daughter, Sophie (Tatum McCann). Butchie works two jobs to make rent; he works as a mechanic's assistant at a garage during the day, and he works as third shift at a plastics factory (where he's been working since he was 18). Jesse is in the 7th grade, as Sophie is in the 1st grade. Jesse is a preteen with a bit of an attitude problem and is often in trouble at school (turning out just like his dad at that age). Sophie is the exact opposite of Jesse, she's sweet and innocent. Rhiannon's theory is that how come Jesse and Sophie such polar opposites are because of their different types of mothers: Michelle was a rebellious junkie who took off and abandoned Jesse at age 4, and Amberlyn was an optimistic cheerleader in high school, who's been with Sophie everyday since she was born. Also, Rhiannon and Amberlyn, who are now both 23-years-old, share the upstairs apartment above the dive bar that they work as waitresses/bartenders. Both, Rhiannon and Amberlyn want to fulfill their lifelong dreams of becoming country music singers in Nashville someday. Watch how Butchie, Rhiannon, and Amberlyn deal with life's trials and tribulations, along with trying to raise Jesse and Sophie at the same time in Tucsan, Arizona.
