Roseanne spent its first 6 seasons as one of the Top 5 rated shows on television and brought up issues no other sitcom was willing to talk about. Roseanne made it OK to talk about the darker side of the American family and brought up touchy subjects such as spouse abuse, substance abuse, equality for women and financial problems most everyone deals with; while also bringing gay characters to the forefront of American television. It did all this while having one of the greatest television casts of all time. Roseanne Barr won an Emmy for her role as Roseanne, John Goodman was nominated 6 times for best actor as Dan, Laurie Metcalf won 3 Emmys and was nominated a total of 4 times for her role as Jackie and Sara Gilbert was nominated twice for best supporting actress as Darlene. Roseanne blended comedy and drama perfectly. Clearly the last 3 seasons (the last one in particular) were not the greatest. However, having a grand total of 6 amazing seasons is enough to say, in my opinion, this show is the greatest to ever hit television!

I agree with you, Overdose! Everything about this show was quality. The cast was perfect and the writing was creative and extremely witty. The character development was thorough and it allowed us to care for (some of) them.

Besides "I Love Lucy," with its innovations, charm and longevity, I would say that "Roseanne" could be considered to be the #2 television show ever created.
