Just thought I'd let you guys know that I found that bootleg Color Honeymooners set that Greg mentioned a while back (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showpost.php?p=3440420&postcount=13) on a different site. The price is still the same ($199.99), but the description is slightly different. They are selling them on 20 DVD-R's, but they also advertise "Only products of high quality." I'm eager to see more of the Color Honeymooners, but I don't know about the $200, maybe if I can get them to drop the price to something like $100. I'd also like to know if they are selling all 49, or just the 42 shown on AmericanLife. I think I'll e-mail them and let you all know what they have to say.

Anyway, the site can be found here: http://www.tvaddicts.tv/movie/comedy/The_Color_Honeymooners.html

Bill. Avoid them like the plague. That site and some companion sites (operated by the same people) have been mentioned previously on the trading post about the horrible quality of the shows they offer. It's a huge ripoff. The site is set up to look like a legit online retailer, but just about everything they sell is a bootleg. Once you get something, you are stuck with it and there is no way they will refund your money. I suggest that you post a message on the trading post.

Bill and Greg,

Well, I jumped in with a purchase of the "Father Knows Best" set from these same people, earlier this week. (Having done a Google AFTER I bought, which shows how dumb I can be.)

So, we'll see. However, one piece of comfort is that one can always deny the CC charge if the product is not as advertised. (Something I will certainly do if FKB is not "complete and uncut".)

My pal bought a set of the cl 39 and I think that it is bootleg. It was done very poorly , but they did give him a full refund. So at least they didn't scam him. The only good thing about this set was the box itself. I don't know how these companies get away with this stuff. I guess they keep going until they get busted? There was someone just last week trying to sell some mooner bootleg right on ebay. I knew that this was a big business overseas, but didn't think it was in the US...

I've never seen that site before. Anyway, why would someone want to buy that set when they have been officially released already and for less money than they are charging? What gets me is the "factory sealed" that these sites always tout. If I was running off copies of these from my house aka "factory", and I wrapped them in saran wrap, I guess that would qualify.

It actually costs more than Paramount's official release!

LOL, believe me Greg, there's no way I'm paying 200 bucks for a crappy bootleg set. That's the only thing I'm concerned about really is the money. I figure the quality can't be much worse than what I'd get from the trading post, considering they probably got the shows from the same place. I just want to see more of the color shows, but AmericanLife (which I don't have) only shows them once a week, and who knows how long I'll be waiting if I rely on MPI. I'd definitely buy the set, bootleg or not, if it was at a reasonable price. Ah, who knows? Maybe I'll find one on eBay for like $50. Thanks for the tip though.

I agree, but I would be willing to pay more if:
It had additional footage, behind the scenes, commercials, improved menues better packaging, etc. How cool would it be have have every single episode, lost, color, etc in one huge box set. I'm sure people would pay a pretty penny for something like that. I know I would as long as it was officialy licensed and of good quality. That would never happen being all the rights are split it different directions. I wonder if any of the Honeymooners will ever be in the public domain?

I'm guessing such a set would have to be packaged in a replica of Ralph's bus!

I would love to see this show in color, but the problem is (just like when they colorized "Bewitched") that you don't know the colors they are showing you are the colors that actually existed when it was being filmed. For instance they can show Alice wearing a yellow dress in a scene where in actuality she really wore a pink dress.

I'll tell you one thing I'd really love to see in color though:
Ralph's golf outfit!!

Now that's a great idea! Lol! I was thinking of "the bag" that Ralph found on the bus, or the one Norton brought to collect the 40 million dollas. Or, maybe Ralph's lunch box. I think the bus is the best! Oh baby!

3 of his last 4 feedbacks are negative. 1 for selling a TVLand recorded copy of Addams Family. Note. The Honeymooners set is "Brand new and Factory sealed."

I'd definitely love to have every single episode, but I'd rather them be released in separate box sets. Maybe the Lost Episodes & Classic 39 would be alright to throw together for die-hard fans like us, but once you switch to color and have different actresses playing the wives, I think there needs to be some sort of separation.

You are probably right about the color ones. It would be ok to put some of the Jackie Gleason show in though. We don't get to see enough of his other characters. And it would be nice to have the very first HM scetch in there as well, regardless of the different wife.

What BensonFan was saying about colorizing would be neat. Not for all the episodes, maybe just one of them. It would be hard to pick one. The Golfer would be fun.

How can someone get away with something like this? I mean, if it is bootlegging. Is it legal to make copies of these old shows under public domain? I doubt the Classic 39 will be in the public domain for many years. Some people even sell downloads. I guess they are only selling information if it is legal to copy them.

The way I see it, the entire Honeymooners catalog should be released in 4 separate sets. The first would obviously be the C39, which are already released, my only complaint is that they aren't in order. Then of course the Lost Episodes, all 103, and the Color Episodes, all 50 (including "The Incredible World of Ed Norton.") It'd be nice to see "Women's Lib" and the four reunion specials from the 70's included in the Color Episodes package too, perhaps on some sort of a bonus disc. And lastly, I think the Cavalcade of Stars sketches (as well as the two Ed Sullivan sketches with Pert Kelton) should be paired with the American Scene Magazine sketches as some sort of "Really Lost Episodes" package. The only reason I would put them together is because they only add up to about 12 sketches combined and they don't really fit in with any other HM collections because of the cast changes (Art as a cop in the first one, Joyce taking over for Elaine Stritch after only one episode, and then Audrey returning for the third American Scene episode), etc. They could throw them on two discs to separate the different time periods, maybe even label them as "before" and "after." Anyone else agree?

It might be cool to see today, but they colorized the Lost Episode "Glow Worm Cleaning" back in the 80's and it turned out pretty bad. The only problem with doing that is, unless you have a color still from one of the episodes, you can never really be too sure what color every single thing in the scene was.

I think there was a sketch from a one-off Gleason special in 1970 or 1971 for CBS. Can anyone verify this? (Not the Women's Lib show which was from 1973. I believe this one was basically a reworking of the show where Alice moves in with Trixie after a fight.)

They did repeat the 1966 Christmas Poor Soul episode in December 1970, and from January to May 1971 repeated a few of the 1969 "cross-country trip" saga episodes, and the first few of the 1966 "Trip to Europe" episodes, as well as "Ralph Kramden Presents." They probably did do a repeat of "King of the Castle" during the January-May 1971 period, I'll have to look.

Here are 2 CBS specials which I know to exist (but not released), with some details:

(1) The Jackie Gleason Show (CBS-10/11/73) One hour special as Gleason joins The June Taylor Dancers in a razzle-dazzle 1920s-30s song-and-dance number.
(2) The Jackie Gleason Special (CBS-12/20/70) with Art Carney, Sheila MacRae, and Jane Kean.

The 1973 special was the one with the "Women's Lib" sketch; and the 1970 airing was a repeat of the Poor Soul Christmas episode from 1966.
