The U.K. has now joined the U.S. and Canada in picking up the new CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. I think this is good news for the show that the International community is also showing interest in the show. Hopefully this means it will have a long run.

Big Bang hits Channel 4

While Channel 4's geeky sitcom The IT Crowd goes stateside to NBC, the UK terrestrial has picked up a similarly themed geek-com from Warner Bros TV International.

Launched at the LA Screenings last month and due to air on CBS next season, The Big Bang Theory is a half-hour comedy about two computer nerds who try their inept wooing skills on the same woman, their new neighbour.

The series is from US exec producers Chuck Lorre (Two and a Half Men) and Bill Prady (Dharma & Greg) via Warner Bros TV and Chuck Lorre Productions. Johnny Galecki (Roseanne) and Jim Parsons (Garden State) play the geeks while the girl next door is played by Kaley Cuoco (Charmed).

Jeffrey Schlesinger, president of Warner Bros International Television, described Big Bang Theory as "a funny and insightful mass-appeal series that will play to all demographics."

The show's Channel 4 slot is as-yet unconfirmed but it will fill the 20.30 slot on CBS from the fall, up against Deal or No Deal on NBC, Dancing With the Stars on ABC, Prison Break on Fox and new comedy Aliens in America on The CW.

The deal between Warner Bros and Channel 4 also includes the next two seasons of The CW's teen drama One Tree Hill on Channel 4 and E4 while older-skewing More4 will retains TNT drama The Closer.
