^ Those I really like. I would've put "Make It With You" by Bread in the list instead of "Baby I'm-A Want You", but I digress.

I saw Hall & Oates in concert in 2002. It was an outdoor venue on a HOT, muggy August night, and couples were still dancing in the aisles when they played "One on One".

Christopher Cross...did you know that his "Think of Laura" got popular after General Hospital played it? The song hit the charts at the same time Genie Francis was returning to the show as Laura. :D

Anything by Air Supply, the Carpenters, Roberta Flack, Chicago, etc. could make this list, really. Anything written by Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, Diane Warren, Tom Snow, Cynthia Weil, etc. would also qualify. ;)

Not sure if "This is it" belongs on the list, Not my idea of a soft-rock tune, More up-tempo if anything and where the heck is "Killing Me Softly with His Song" by Roberta Flack?

There's more softness in that list than a bottle of Downy, I wonder if I could print it and use it for dryer sheets?

Ok, Bad joke.

I seen this show twice already. Damn, those songs bring back memories. I can't begin to list all the ones I love.

LITTLE RIVER BAND was da bomb band for me!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, what is the difference between a ballad and a soft-rock song?

Fleet

Nicolette Larson- Lotta Love- 1978
Doobie Brothers- Listen To The Music- 1972
Al Stewart- Time Passages- 1978

Extras:
Eagles- Best Of My Love- 1974
Fleetwood Mac- Dreams- 1977
Starbuck- Moonlight Feels Right- 1976

Ok, for those who actually watched the countdown, did you all see some of those ugly mugs of those singers? My God, last night I again watched part of the countdown (my boyfriend was actually watching it for the first time) and Dan Hill (Sometimes when we touch) was FUGLY!!! Back in those days we didn't have music videos, we saw the artists on American Bandstand and so forth. I don't ever recall seeing Dan Hill. He looked like a cross between that Geico caveman guy and a chimpanzee!

^ Irene, everytime I hear or even think of "Sometimes When We Touch" I think of that silly Geico commercial. Wasn't that song also used in Moment By Moment (your favorite movie ;))?

However, Dan Hill redeemed himself in my book with his fantastic 1987 duet with Vonda Shepard, "Can't We Try". That happens to be one of my all-time favorite songs. :D

Well, I have some songs that didn't make the list, but let's remember, this is the 40 songs. I am sure if the list was Top 100 songs, all our choices would have been listed.

Monika, Laughing at your post at bottom of page 1. I cannot for the life of me remember if that song was in MBM. God, I seen that movie once and it has left a bad memory!

My reason for getting satellite radio. At least, that is one of the reasons. Satellite plays songs that radio just doesn't touch.

Christopher Cross most definitely rulez!!!! When I heard his music I wondered what he looked like. When I found out, I was SHOCKED to say the least! :faint: He is not ugly to me. But, his voice didn't match what he looked like.

Is it coincidence that a lot of the guys who made soft rock music back in the days didn't seem to have it "going on" as far as in the looks department? It was like they were singing from broken heart experience.

Well Mike, I still think one of the worst covers of all time is the Andy Gibb/Victoria Principal version of "All I Have To Do Is Dream". Love the Everly Bros. original, loved Andy Gibb's other songs, but this was three moments of pure, unadulterated pain.

She never sings alone at any part of the song, but it's very high-pitched. It's hard to tell if she's good or not because her voice is so far back in the mix and the strings are more audible!

I swear I heard he was married to Faith Hill once upon a time. That's where she got the Hill name.

Justin, did you ever hear the cover of "Sailing" that the Backstreet Boys did in 1999? I remember my sister playing it...it was truly awful. If you think the original is bad...
AHHHHH!! They should be smacked for that. I haven't heard it, but damn...

Awesome!!

 This one could be a guilty pleasure for me, but it's one I've always admitted to liking.

Whenever I hear it on the radio or while Boogie Nights is playing, I crank that sucker up. Thanks to him having a new sister and feeling lonely because of it, we now have one of the most softsational soft rock songs.

LOL. Seriously? You didn't notice?

To me, his skin color was tan. Like he might be of a mixed race background. And his hair looked kind of kinky to me.

I'll be sure to catch this program again to make extra sure I'm not trippin'.

When I saw his face, my reaction was.... "OH, HELL NO!" :o

I knew it!

If you click on 'The Dan Hill Story', it confirms that he is indeed biracial. :D

old thread but I finally caught this the other night on VH1 Classic. One thing I like about this countdown that I hated about the "40 Most Awesomely Bad...." countdowns is that they actually allowed a variety of opinions to be expressed here. "Michael Bolton rules, I love him", "God I hate Michael Bolton".... both sides were heard. I always hated on those "Most Awesomely Bad" countdowns that it was nothing but bashing the songs in question. You never heard any "I don't care, I still rock out to We Built This City" counter-opinions on there from any of the panelists. So it was kinda nice to see VH1 actually allow people to have an opinion of their own on this show instead of automatically going "this song sucks". Hopefully VH1 will have more countdowns like this because not everyone hates every song in question that is supposed to be "bad".
