I'm watching FP on TBS for the first time since i'm off today and I was so impressed by the way TBS removed the lyrics to the opening theme and just left the THEME-lol I mean I get so sick of hearing that song over and over,
IN WEST PHILADELPHIA BORN AND RAISED, ON THE PLAYGROUND IS WHERE I SPENT MOST OF MY DAYS.

TBS has made the right decision and defintely get a thumbs up by taking out the Lyrics. N@N maybe u should do the same?

I been hearing that RAP song for 17 years so all I need is the theme-lol I think all cable stations should do that with older shows

No! Another thing TBS is doing wrong these days. Ugh! The lyrics are a very important part of the show. Sure, they get tiring and old if you hear them an awful lot, but if you are a casual viewer then you will be upset when they don't show the opening theme.

A lot of older shows have really great and memorable themes. Cutting the themes is like cutting part of the show.

That rap is stale. If you really want to hear the theme along with the rap tune into N@N just about any night and you can hear it dozens of times.

You are so right Heather, if you are a FP fan and watched the show on TBS in the afternoon ou defintely would hear it on N@N later today-lol

I agree. This is a great thing on TBS's part. Everytime I hear the theme, I want to shut the TV off and turn to ABC Family, which usually do anyways, since it is unbearable to watch Fresh prince these days.

I don't think they do this with Friends. A lot of the shows they air, like Everybody Loves Raymond, don't really have an opening theme for most seasons. What I have seen them do is air the opening of the next show with the closing credits for the previous underneath. They're just trying to save time to show more commercials.

Yeah I seen that today with the closing credits of the Steve Harvey show and Teaser for Fresh Prince

I think they do the same thing with King of Queens, on my local all the episodes they show they have an opening theme and on TBS they just kind of run past it really quickly. I think they use maybe a 10 sec clip of the opening.

Yeah, TBS does this now with most of their shows in order to make more time for commercials...

"Saved By the Bell" is one example. It's been shortened to where they don't sing the theme.

Also on "Friends" they run a shorter version of the opening from a later season, even if it is an earlier episode.

I'm glad I don't watch TBS. It's bad enough sitcoms of today don't have much of a theme song but to cut off the theme songs from older shows....

It's never necessary to edit out ANY part of a TV show, ever. Don't even kid yourself into believing that. I swear, you "complained" and moaned (I use "complain" because I don't want to get in trouble) about ION chopping up "Alice," but here you're praising TBS for chopping up "Fresh Prince." It makes no sense. They shouldn't chop up ANYTHING. Next thing you know, they'll figure that people are tired of hearing the same old jokes in the same old episodes so they'll just chop entire scenes. They do that anyway, so they might as well cut out another five or so minutes from each episode of each show that they air.

Luckily, "Dawson's Creek" has an opening sequence that is only about 50 or so seconds long, so they wouldn't dare but their hands on that one.

In Fresh Prince case, 4 seasons are on DVD so it dosn't matter if TBS takes out the song. I think FP is the longest theme song in Sitcom history.

Home Improvement has left local channels, so WTBS in Atlanta can't air it anymore. So, guess what? They picked up Diff'rent Strokes:

WTBS doesn't air Fresh Prince, since that show is also cable only.

I said Home Improvement has left locals, NOT TBS. WTBS in Atlanta is a local, so they can't air it anymore.
