A rant is when a person complains very strongly about something. Like this.

:soapbox: :cuss:

And way to go Solomon! I don't even watch ESPN, and I got a kick out of it. Keep up the good work.

Way to go Solomon You were great. You are so right about ESPN being the Yankees network. It's like no other team exists. lol And that sports ticker annoys me too. It's okay on ESPN News but on a regular sports channel where you are trying to watch a game it's rediculous. You're only seeing half of the picture.

Definitely a great addition to the site! The mini-reviews were getting a bit too simple for the Saturday blog, but this really spices things up!

For ESPN, I completely agree with what Solomon has to say. Every time I watch the network and they start iscussing the Yankees, I would think exactly what he said in the blog. Great job!

What can I say???? I knew Solomon having his own space blog/column would be great. I mean, why should we (S.O. members) be the only ones to enjoy the rants of Solomon???? The whole world needs to read his stuff. That is not to say I agree with everything he says. One thing for sure he and I agree THAT GOOD TIMES IS NOT A SPIN-OFF. Don't forget that Solomon when you have the opportunity to rant!!!

I don't watch ESPN that much to really comment on most of what Solomon says, however, I do know abt that stupid ticker and the "updates" of baseball scores. I think that maybe an update every 15 mins. is more fitting.

GOOD JOB SOLOMON!!!!!!! I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT!!!

I think that if Solomon is going to be a regular blogger and have his own column, it should have a really cool and distinctive title. Failing that, just make something up that sounds good. "Solomon's Weekly Rant" just doesn't do it for me. How about something like this:

"The Wisdom Of Solomon"

I can live with that!

I sort of agree with Solomon about the Yankees, but they are the most popular team in America, so they should get top billing.

And the bottom ticker is Fine, I'm starting to get annoyed with "The Rundown" on the entire right side of the screen during SportsCenter, thats really annoying me now.

Now the Rundown is pretty cool because you get to see when the Stories you are interested will come up during the show. Because we all know that they are lots of sports stories on Sportscenter that we are not interested in hearing about. Example, Auto Racing-lol

WHAT??? I wish I had a $ for every time their meterologists stand right in front of New York when they are showing the USA map!

Now Atlanta on the other hand...the rest of the country hears a lot more about their weather than we need to. After all it was Ted Turner's channel originally.

"THe NOTHING HAS CHANGED" Sports Ticker...way to go my friend!

Yes that's funny after all I can get tennis scores on my cell phone, I don't think America needs a sports feed running 24/7 under any cable channels anymore if they ever did. I guess they ripped it from CNN?

Solomon I so agree with you about ESPN and the NBA, do they really get the Finals? I turned on my TV Saturday night to see who had the 6th game of Cleveland/Detroit and when I saw it was TNT I said "Yes!" after all their show has won an Emmy, has ESPN's?

I also love it that Reggie Miller said his team (Charles, Kenny, Ernie and Reggie) should play ESPN's (who do they have?)

Solomon, you have your nerve. Cinemax would have picked up I Love Lucy if had more hardcore sex and violence. Duh! LOL.

And I do rush home everyfriday night to check out the movies on "DTVL". I for one am glad that shows like 227 only aired for eight days in a weekday time slot only to be bumped to make room for these movies that we have been blessed with to hog up the schedule. Who needs classic TV. I mean, really?

I missed the good meat of TV LAND back in 1996 because Time Warner in Tampa did not want to add it yet. By the time I got it six years later, some of the good shows were gone.
Solomon, this is good stuff bro. Thanks for the rant!

Great column Solomon. What can I say that hasn't already been said. I love the sarcasm in your blog abt wanting to run home every Friday night to catch Friday Night Movie. GOOD JOB SOL.

The addition of Extreme Make-over is just another example of bad programming choices. That kind of show belongs on DIY or HGTV, not a classic tv programming show. And besides, who wants to see a house get remodeled over and over again? Wasn't once enough? That is why God invented VCR's. That is why God invented TiVo. That is why God invented trading posts. If there are people who want to see something over and over again, then ask on a trading board, record it or have someone record it for you. What kind of life do you have that you have to watch that show again and again?

That's in the ION RANT about the Amen Song-lol But if we are going to criticize TV Land it has to be in comparson to a station like TBS because both are on the same level. ION is in a totally different broadcast league than those two stations-lol

But TV Land still continues to disappoint us, just like ION does when they take off really good shows that people like (Alice, Amen).

Again, great rant! It coudn't have been put better, especially about the movie part. The only cable stations on par with TV Land that is appropriate for movies is TBS and ABC Family. ABC Family airs at least 2 movie a night, yet gives us great shows all day long, which would make it by far the best channel on television.

You know, I thought that it was a one time thing and then I noticed the cycle. I wonder if it was done for time purposes?

As far TV Land goes, it could well end up airing reality shows from its sister network VH1 like "I Love NY" or "Flavor of Love". Wouldn't that be awful?

That is the only problem I have with the movies. It's nice to sit down on a Friday Night to watch classic 80's movies, but the movies are taking over the lineup. For example, in July, the Negotiator is airing once on a Saturday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday at night, and Thursday afternoon. Who wants to see the same movie 5 times?

we never watch the new Tv Land -i mean NEVER--i thought ION TV was gonna fill my need for classics but they have done some dumb moves too--they had Alice on for a while but have cancelled that, what a SHAME--they added the terrible Moral court (not worthy of watching). Say goodbye to TV Land-they must not care about what the public really is saying--fans hate their commerical stuffed off the clock system and have wrote petitions but tv land management continues to ignore us!

If TV Land is going to devote a weekend to westerns then they should have variety....like what CBN used to have in the early 80's. they showed a lot of rare westerns on Saturdays and weeknights late at night they had very rare sitcoms from the 50's.

I agree. TV Land has gone to the dogs. What is with the movies, too? "SoapDish" "National Lampoon's Vacation". While these are entertaining movies, they are not classic TV. I think they don't want to play classic shows anymore because it shows how awful prime-time TV is today.

I totally agree-
TV Land is a channel that lost it's identity-
They say they are catering to the baby boomers- what a joke, the shows they are adding have no reason to be on TV Land- They should rename it TV Wasteland- And we have 1 person to that for this- "Larry Jones" the idiot in charge of TV Land.
They show the same programming over and over- (Much like Nick at Nite)
Why they are showing movies like Basic Instinct as part of 'baby boomer" is beyond me.
I remember when CBN cable network showed: Burns and Allen, You bet your life, Jack Benny, and also when Independent stations existed not clones of UPN, WB, etc and showed classic TV shows.
I hope ION, and American Life TV give TV Wasteland a run for there money as they expand there lineups with classic TV.

TV Land is a channel that is having trouble finding itself. These days the viewers don't know what it is. Is it a Movie Channel? Is it Classic TV? We as viewers no longer know. I stopped watching the channel when they started the Off the Clock scheduling. Starting shows at :15 or after they run the 20 minutes of commercials? The reason for the off the clock scheduling is their own fault. The ratings have gone down so much that they need to give Make goods to advertisers but they still need to make money so...let's run 15 minutes of commercials for every half hour show and everyone will be happy. I check on the TV Land ratings every week and they are in the basement. Problems with TV Land. 1. Movies? 2. They run the same 5 shows, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except when they run movies. 3. They don't promote the line up, when they have a good one...maybe that's why they don't have viewers anymore. 4. When they chop shows, they chop the wrong parts. Who is screening these shows? 5. No offense but TV LINK on the website needs to take the Dale Carnegie Course or maybe just a course in etiquette. He sure does bring the people to the site. NOT!! 6. Bonanza & Gunsmoke...TV Land...The Cowboy Channel...coming soon. 7. Pre empt regular programming as much as possible so viewers don't know what they are watching? 8. They change the line up so often, then they don't promote the change and the ratings drop. 9. When they have a drop in ratings and decide to drop a show, they need to ask why? Is it possible that the later episodes of All in the Family don't bring in as many viewers as the earlier ones? Same with Happy Days, Good Times, and other shows so when we get to season 6 of All in the Family and the ratings start to drop...let's drop the show. 10. TV Land was the best, one of the most talked about channels and now one of the biggest embarrassments to CBS and the entire TV Community. Many have changed the channel and management needs to wake up and ask WHY?

It seems like a whole lot of cable networks have changed in the past year. It used to be that cable nets had a distinct "format" approach (similar to modern radio programming), but now it seems like the majority of channels are in desperation mode, trying to find whatever audience they can in the 200 channel universe. The ones to blame I think are not the cable networks, but the cable and satellite companies which carry them. They give us so many channels now that there can only be a very tiny audience for each one. When TV Land started there were only 50-70 channels to choose from, including local and semi-local TV stations. So don't blame TVL, Solomon (or anyone else)...blame your cable/satellite provider.

The Cable providers should threaten to take these cable channels off their systems if they don't continue to air what they originally were set up to air. They were put up there because people wanted what they were providing...now that they don't do it they should be dropped. If that happened a lot of these channels would go back to the kind of channel they originally were set up for.

Even if there were 500 channels to choose from, you just don't start showing all kinds of programming to get more viewers. You stick to one type of tv programming and then viewers will watch depending on the different types of classic Tv shows that the Network acquire every year. Some Classic TV shows are hits, some are not but that's how it will be sometimes. Doesn't mean TV Land should start adding WRESTLING, CHEF, and SPORTS programming when that's what the station is supposed to be about.

The Cable providers should threaten to take these cable channels off their systems if they don't continue to air what they originally were set up to air. They were put up there because people wanted what they were providing...now that they don't do it they should be dropped. If that happened a lot of these channels would go back to the kind of channel they originally were set up for.

I just wish there was another cable like TV land so that there would be competition for TV land. But they really don't have any compeition because TBS is not really about classic TV, N@N doesn' air TV shows during the day, TV One is only geared toward one race which is DUMB, and ION is well you get what I mean-lol

and it seems like I always get the channels to late after they already started going down hill. I finally got TV Land after years of wanting it but I only had it for about 2 years when all this other stuff started going on with it. I honestly barely watch it anymore. I think I watched a Sanford and Son episode a few months ago and that was the last time I had it on. lol I just wish for once when a channel starts off geered toward a certain type of program they'll stick to it. I used to love AMC because they aired classic movies without commercials but now they have commercials and play anything but classic movies. The same with GSN. They don't even show many classic gameshows anymore.

There are threats out there right now because when contracts were signed originally, there was a specific format for the channel and many have changed. I have seen my cable company move channels out of standard cable and put them on Digital. The ones I have seen that have moved, are ones that have changed format. TV Land is on a great position on our line up but I don't see that lasting. Next stop...Digital. Also when I go away and stay in hotels, TV land is never on the hotel's TV line up. The last hotel I stayed at...I asked about TV land. They said there has been no requests for the channel.

When I first got TV Land it was on digital and then they moved it to basic. It should be moved back because it's nothing but garbage anymore.AMC and GSN are still on my basic lineup. They should be moved to Digital. The only thing I watch on Digital are the Movie Channels , NFL Network and ESPN News. Most of the rest of them I wouldn't miss. I have about 10 music channels over there I never turn on.

You are right. When you get up in the morning and go to bed at night, it's nice to have the TV on.

I totally agree about the situation with TV Land, especially about their showing movies now. How can you show movies on a channel that has "TV" as part of it's name? I also found it funny that one of the few movies they've shown recently that I like, Pleasantville, was actually being shown for a week before TV Land showed it on another channel, CMT. Of course, CMT shouldn't be showing movies, either.

Another good job Solomon, and spot on. I barely recognize TV Land anymore. Movies, whose bright idea was that, lol.

I agree with ya on Tvland. I watch them for the old shows not this new stuff. There are plenty of other channels out there to show the new stuff on. I am so scared they will go the way of FX. FX was good when they first started out. They play more old shows. But then they stopped the old stuff & went to new stuff & they lost me as a viewer. Someone desperately needs to put out another channel dedicated to old shows and one that won't show this new stuff. I noticed alot of motels have bad cable & Tvland isn't included or ION either. You're at a motel & nothing to watch lol...

The Channel Retro TV network sounds like an attractive Classic TV network but I don't know it's programming is attractive-lol

Hey Solomon - was browsing the flyers this weekend and spotted this little nifty item for you! You can have it roll like the ESPN Banner you love so much. Up to 5 different sayings - each one could read: "NOTHING HAS CHANGED"

Oh Good. It would be easier to see the thread of each new rant, rather than jumbling them all into one thread. :D

Great rant. If freakin' nick at nite was able to show all the classics when it first started why in 2007 is TV Land unable to continue showing classic TV?

They say they can't afford some of the contracts. How much are the paying Harry Shearer to do the promo spots? We don't need promo spots or cool graphics. Just show classic TV. How hard can it be?

I saw the TV Land rant and I couldn't believe it. For the first time that I can remember, I actually agree with Solomon about something. Yes, you're right. TV Land (US) does suck and it's about time the viewers told them that, not that it will help but it's worth a shot.

By the way, thanks for using part of my Extreme Makeover reference in your rant from a post I made last week.
