Will Geer (the Waltons) is my all-time first choice, but when I think about it, Sherman Potter on M*A*S*H would be a good choice (if he was home), Grandpa on the Munsters seemed pretty cool and supportive.
Forget about Cotten Hill & Frank Barone.
How about Grandpa on The Real McCoys? I kind of liked him.

Forget about ... Frank Barone.
I would actually like Frank as a grandpa, he was supportive, kind of, and he was always funny.

I know what you mean. He is very cute and beneath that crusty exterior is a funny,with-it guy. Remember the time he ate/stole something at the supermarket and Allie was with him? He had to actually "talk" to her and was very uncomfortable. The scene turned out to be very good and real.

Actually, I also think I'd like Frank Barone for a grandpa. He was always funny and could totally liven up a party!! Grandpa Walton was also very cool.

Grandpa on the Munsters. Hearing stories about the old country, learning how to make potions in the Lab. He would be a cool Grandpa.
