What's up with TVLand now?
First they became a better version of Nick at Nite, offering the old shows we wanted. Our area had to badger our cable company to include it in the basic package. Little by little they got away from the older, more difficult to find shows and began to run the same group of newer shows over and over. No Donna Reed, Ozzie and Harriet, Honeymooners, Pete & Gladys, Father Knows Best, My Three Sons, etc.
Now they are excited to announce they will be showing movies on Friday nights! What has that got to do with TV? If we want movies, there are plenty of channels and Netflix, Blockbuster, HBO, Showtime, etc. What will stop them from slipping more movies into other time slots later on? They can kill 2 hours with one movie, rather than having to come up with 4 half-hour shows. I can just see Saturdays with movies all day long!
We want classic TV shows! Why won't someone listen? :(

I understand the frustration but ONE night out of a 7 day week isn't killing anybody.

I agree. I just worry that it is the beginning of a trend.

The point is why are they showing movies to start with? As already stated, There's plenty of other channels to watch movies on and if the ratings are good for Friday night, You can bet they'll expand it to other days as well. Let's just hope that stupid White Men Can't Jump has low ratings.

I completely agree with some of you. I don't like the idea of movies on TV Land (especially if they're not that old), but it isn't just one night out of a week. They will air a movie on Friday night, then air it again on Saturday during the day, Sunday during the day, and one day during a week. If you count, that is about 8 hours wasted on showing the same movie when, as said before, we can get 4 half hour classic shows like The Honeymooners, I Dream of Jeannie, or Bewitched.
Now TVLand is all MASH, Andy Griffith, and Sanford and Son, while some of their other shows, like The Jeffersons, only air once a day.

TV LAND "jumped the shark" a LOOOONG time ago; and sadly; they're never going to change:mad:
Why are they airing movies from the 1980s and 1990s? That doesn't go with hte programming they currently have. Why not movies from the 1960s and 1970s?
People will eventually get fed up and stop watching TV-Land. I don't watch it as much as I used to.

According to this article (link below), TV Land is airing movies to save the channel. Movies are cheaper to show than tv shows.

I hardly watch it anymore; too. Just BONANZA every once in a while and maybe TAGS every now and then, when they're showing the black and white/Barney Fife ones. And then, only if theres nothing else on.

NICK AT NITE used to show movies too (back when they were a GOOD channel).
But, at least they only showed them once a week, late saturday night/early sunday mornings and they would only show OLD, OLD ones.

I don't watch TVLand anymore, I've discovered Ion instead. It is suppose to be a TV show network, and not a movie channel so it makes no sense to me.

I live in a rural coastal area (pop. 6000), and all we get in the way of stations that show classics are TVLand, Nick at Nite, Oxygen, TBS and Hallmark. I don't get 1/4 of the great shows you all are apparently watching. I haven't seen Samantha in years!
For the lame TVLand to bite the dust is a big deal for me. :(

I already have quit. I haven't watched since That Girl, which was months ago. I am ready and waiting for Ion to expand.
If TVLand actually aired old TV movies, that would be different considering the movies ACTUALLY AIRED ON TELEVISION.

It is frustrating Madame X. Don't think you are alone in this matter. We are angry abt the movies. We had discussed this matter when it first occurred and I have no problem discussing it again and again, especially with you.
I HATE THE WHOLE MOVIE AND ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING CRAP!!!!!!! I miss the old TVland. It will never be the same again. NEVER. ( I am hoping by posting the word NEVER it will come back to bite me in the butt *irene has fingers crossed*)

So it went: Nick at Nite (Donna Reed, etc.), then TVLand, and now what? Judging by the boards (and basically this entire site), there are so many people that want the classics. Why can't there be a real channel devoted to only that? My goodness, they have a golf channel, home improvement channels, numerous sports channels, cooking channels, the Game Show channel, health and fitness channels, etc. How do they support themselves? Why are we in a constant struggle to have a decent channel?
A-ha! I just figured it out! They are releasing all of our favorites on DVD's and we are at the mercy of the greedy bastards that charge too much and edit the hell out of the shows, and throw in a couple of ads just in case we might want to spend more money. We wait anxiously for "the next season" to be released and it may never come.
I guess we slit our own throats. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!

I may be the only one on this board who doesn't have cable. I'm glad that a lot of these shows are available on DVD so I can rent them (or in the case of shows like Bewitched, buy them), because local stations don't show many old reruns anymore. Honestly, I don't know anyone who watches those silly informercials, and forget about those smutty talk shows. YUCK. It seems a lot of these bigwigs don't care about pleasing your average viewer.

You can see Weekned at Bernies on WGN or a local abc affiliate on a Sunday afternoon like I did a month ago.
That's why I wasn't too happy to see MASH come on TV Land. It's been shown on local stations every night since I can remember. Happy Days isn't.
