Since my nephew was born, I'm looking forward to introducing him to the classics...namely The Muppet Show, which I own on DVD.

Well, I was watching it with him last night and some things really stood out to me. Watching as an adult now, I get the jokes that flew over my head as a youngster. Watch how many explosions and gunshots were in the sketches, and how many times Muppets got smacked with mallets, or karate chopped by Miss Piggy.

Besides that, there was quite a lot of suggestive humor -- it was implied a few times that some of the female guest stars were quite, ahem, "friendly" with those large, fuzzy monsters. ;) Animal -- you could say he was the persona of sex, drugs and rock n roll!!

Plus, the characters were so unique and fun...The Muppets were very violent and even suggestive but so INNOCENT at the same time!! Jim Henson and his staff really did something special for our generation.

All that said, do you think if The Muppet Show had debuted in the 21st century, it would have succeeded? I mean, with political correctness and all that junk?? I really wonder...

I'm just glad The Muppets were around when I was born. I still have the plush Kermit (complete w/ trench coat and hat) and Miss Piggy my mom and great-grandma bought me back in 1980!!! :D
