Starz Unveils Comedy Block of New Programming

'The Starz Comedy Hour' Kicks Off April 18 at 11 p.m. With 'Head Case,'

Show'

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., March 5 -- Starz Entertainment today
announced "The Starz Comedy Hour," the company's new weekly comedy block
featuring the fresh, cutting-edge original series "Head Case," "Martin
Lawrence's 1st Amendment Stand-up" and "The Bronx Bunny Show." "The Starz
Comedy Hour" launches at 11:00 p.m. on April 18 and features 10 original
episodes of each series for 10 weeks.
"Starz viewers are in for a load of laughs with these hilarious new
original series," says Michael Ruggiero, vice president of original
programming. "Ali Wentworth's comedic genius, the legendary Martin Lawrence
and the no-holds barred antics of 'The Bronx Bunny Show' will appeal to a
broad base of comedy fans, making Starz the late night place to be every
Wednesday."
"The Starz Comedy Hour"
"Head Case"
Meet cutting edge therapist Dr. Elizabeth Goode (Alexandra Wentworth,
"In Living Color," "Office Space," "Seinfeld"). She's brash,
unconventional, judgmental, but undeniably thriving as the "it therapist"
to Hollywood's maladjusted celebrity elite. Boldly brandishing her own
unique mental insight and technique, Dr. Goode's days have rapidly become
filled with a literal "who's who" from the world of entertainment, sports
and music.
Dr. Goode shares office space with Freudian shrink Dr. Myron
Finkelstein (a side-splitting turn by Steve Landesberg, "Barney Miller")
who stalks the waiting room in a desperate attempt to resurrect his own
floundering practice. In session, receiving the "Goode treatment" are Rick
Fox, Tom Sizemore, Alanis Morrisette, Jason Priestley, Ione Skye, Sean
Hayes, Ralph Maccio, Jane Kaczmarek, Jennifer Finnigan, Andy Dick, Shelby
Lynne, Rich Eisen, Jonathan Silverman, Liz Phair, Fred Willard and Willie
Garson.
"Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-up" is an uncensored
stand-up original comedy showcase for some of the nation's most talented
young comedians. With Lawrence as executive producer, the weekly series is
hosted by one of Hollywood's most hilarious stand-up comedians Doug
Williams. The very talented DJ and entertainer Biz Markie provides a
special dose of hip-hop flavor in between the laughs. Featured comedians
include A. J. Jamal ("Comic Justice"), Roz ("Last Comic Standing"), Alonzo
Bodden ("The Tonight Show with Jay Leno"), Finesse Mitchell ("Comic View')
and others.
"The Bronx Bunny Show"
This hilarious, wild and woolly talk show stars two foul-mouthed furry
animals -- Bronx Bunny, the star-struck title character, and his cranky
sidekick Teddy T, the politically incorrect panda. The duo, who recently
moved from the Bronx, invites celebrity guests into their crummy East Los
Angeles TV studio/apartment where they run a low-rent uncensored public
access show, asking "the questions" you wouldn't hear asked on typical
interview shows. Among the stars that join the two hosts (and take on all
their inappropriate questions) are Howie Mandel ("Deal or No Deal"), Kelly
Carlson ("Nip/Tuck"), "Star Trek's" George Takei, Joely Fisher ("Til
Death"), "Saved By the Bell's" Screech (Dustin Diamond), Eric Roberts (A
Guide to Recognizing Your Saints) and many others. It's a chance for these
personalities to relax, take off their ties, jackets, and sometimes a
little more, and take on the questions never asked on Leno, Letterman and
certainly not Oprah.
Recent original programs from Starz Entertainment include the
critically-acclaimed documentaries "Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride: Hunter
S. Thompson on Film," a personal, intimate look at the literary icon and
founder of Gonzo Journalism; "New Orleans Music In Exile," outlining the
tragic affect Hurricane Katrina left on the city's wondrous music
community; "Going To Pieces: The Rise and Fall of The Slasher Film," a
comprehensive and original documentation of the importance, prominence and
legitimacy of the popular film genre.
