Dreamgirls star Eddie Murphy was so devastated after losing the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award to Alan Arkin that he stormed out of the ceremony, according to press reports.

Murphy was the favorite to win the Oscar, which instead was awarded to Little Miss Sunshine star Arkin.

The 45-year-old tried to downplay his disappointment, telling Us Weekly magazine, "It's fine. It happens. It's OK."

But shortly thereafter, Murphy and girlfriend Tracey Edmonds left the show and didn't return.

Murphy missed out on his Dreamgirls castmates Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose performing songs from the film, as well as Hudson's win for Best Supporting Actress.

Eddie needs to get over himself. The fact that he was nominated alone should stand for something. If Eddie would stop putting out worthless crap like Norbit and focus on making solid artistic choices, maybe he will win an award someday.

Eddie can be a big baby sometime - he won't return to Saturday Night Live for a guest shot supposedly because a decade ago, David Spade was doing his "Hollywood Minute" bit and when a picture of Eddie came up, Spade said "Look, kids! It's a falling star!"

Eddie could certainly dish it out during his stand up days, but apparently can't take it if things don't go his way.

Sooo, he left BEFORE THE SHOW WAS OVER? Could this be verified by looking at the ceremony, I mean, he was sitting in the second row right? If so, then if one were to view the tape of that show, we would be able to see if there is a "seat filler" in his spot.

Can anyone verify this??? I am definitely curious. Simply for the fact that if he indeed leave early because he lost, he is a very sore loser and has no class when it comes to honoring those who won, including Hudson. Remember when he covered his face when his name was announced, was it because he was trying to cover his face because he was ASSUMING he was going to win?

Eddie Murphy's aides have hit back at reports the actor/comedian stormed out of the Oscars on Sunday after losing out to Alan Arkin--insisting her had always planned to leave after his category was announced.

Murphy, who was a favorite, left the Kodak Theater in Hollywood minutes after Arkin claimed gold for Best Supporting Actor--but his handlers claim Murphy would have left even if he had won.

His representative, Arnold Robinson, says, "Eddie had always planned on leaving after his category was announced to spend the rest of the evening with his family.

No one ever wonders if he had to run to the bathroom and that's why he stormed out?

I seem to remember reading that Bill Murray did the same thing. Both of these guys could learn something from Peter O'Toole. Eight times he's up for best actor, eight times he's watched it go to someone else, and he still sits there like a true gentleman, applauding the winner. That's class.

Add Bill Murray to my a** list... I so agree with you. How many actors/actresses with CLASS continue to applaud, continue to show up and sit through the show...A LOT! Go to hell Eddie Murphy!

Off topic, but does anyone know the latest with Eddie Murphy's pregnant ex-girlfriend? They dated briefly, split up and he said that it wasn't his child or whatever. I read about it months ago, but haven't heard anything since. Was the girl with him at the Oscars pregnant?

And yeah, he's a sore loser.

Scary spice. I haven't heard anything but yeah, I would like to know what is up with that. I didn't notice if the girl that was with him was pregnant. Seems to me Eddie needs to practice safe sex rather than state that he is not the father of Scary Spice's baby. Had he practiced that, he wouldn't be in this mess.

Okay, maybe you can give him the benefit of the doubt...

Hey Ed, it would have been nice for you to stick around and watch Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson: you know, your co-stars from the movie "Dreamgirls" perform thier great medley from the movie which they also co-starred in with you. Maybe it would have been nice to show some solidarity for your co-stars and the other people who worked so hard on "Dreamgirls."

But no, it's always been about you, hasn't it Ed?

Liza, you are absolutely right about Peter O'Toole, a great actor and a GENTLEMAN. Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray and many others could learn a lot from him.

No the woman with Eddie was not his pregnant girlfriend, former Spice Girl known as Scary Spice. The woman with Eddie was Trace Edmonds, the former wife of singer Babyface.
