Alan Arkin winning was a great upset! He truly deserved it. I loved seeing Jennifer Hudson win as well. Even though she was the frontrunner for months, the whole "From American Idol to the Oscars" thing made it a "wow" factor. It's even more surprising than Hilary Swank's "From 90210 to the Oscars" moment. There were also quite a few upsets in the smaller categories.

I was really rooting for Alan Arkin - and he looked honestly surprised, bless his heart!

I was going to completely give up the Oscars if Helen Mirren didn't win, so luckily they got that one right.

The one that upset me was Peter O'Toole. I really, really, REALLY wanted him to win. Eight nominations for best actor and never won??? And then they give Scorsese an Oscar because he never won. Urgh! I'm not a Scorsese fan, never have been. I've never seen a movie of his that I've liked, so I don't get the hype. I'm sure Forrest Whittaker deserved his Best Actor award, but he's young, there will be other performances. They've done this to O'Toole EIGHT times now! Poor guy.
