It looks like the favorites are as follows.
The Departed - Best Picture
Martin Scorsese - Best Director
Forrest Whitaker - Best Actor
Helen Mirren - Best Actress
Eddie Murphy - Best Supporting Actor
Jennifer Hudson - Best Supporting Actor
What are your upset predicitions and which one do you feel is most strongly possible.
My possible upset guesses are:
1. Little Miss Sunshine - Best Picture
2. Paul Greengrass - Best Director
3. Ryan Gossling - Best Actor
4. Kate Winslet - Best Actress
5. Alan Arkin - Best Supporting Actor
6. Adriana Barraza - Best Supporting Actress
Which one do I feel is most likely to happen?
I'd say Alan Arkin.

Abigail Breslin (or whatever her name is)---Best Supporting Actress
Peter O'Toole---Best Actor
I think the rest will go down as predicted they would.

The Abigail girl is a seriously possible upset, but I think the Academy sometimes comes out of left field (that's why I picked the lady from Babel).
I'm annoyed with the Jennifer Hudson/Eddie Murphy thing, because if they don't win it will automatically be labelled racism which would be a load of crap.
I wouldn't even care if they said it was a prejudice against musicals.
But it's not like anyone owes Eddie Murphy anything, or that Jennifer Hudson reinvented musical acting. Far from it on both counts.

I agree with everything you said. One thing about the voters of these award shows, is that they like to sometimes make a statement. They will choose somebody who not necessarily is the best, but who they feel can make a statement.
