No, it was Boris Karloff dancing on the Red Skelton Show.

No, it was Boris Karloff dancing on the Red Skelton Show.
And the line was delivered like that, because: a) Skelton was on Gleason's network, CBS, and b) I.I.N.M., the original script had Karloff dancing on Milton Berle's show - a no-no, as Berle was on what in those days was referred to as "another network."

The funny thing was, Karloff actually did appear on The Red Skelton Show, at least twice - the first time on Nov. 27, 1956; the second on Sept. 24, 1968, a year before his death, in an episode which also featured Vincent Price.

Speaking of "Uncle Miltie", I somehow have to think he was quite upset by Buick dropping HIS show in the fall of '55 and signing up to sponsor Gleason and The Honeymooners. According to Jim Bishop's bio on JG "THE GOLDEN HAM", Berle was on his way to rehearsal for his TV show and picked up a copy of VARIETY and saw the headline: BUICK SIGNS GLEASON. I forget if that was the first time he learned of it, I tried locating that spot in the book but couldn't find it.

I.I.N.M., in those days many TV stars found out such changes by reading in a newspaper. This was to be how Gleason himself learnt of the 1970 cancellation of his show, according to William Henry III's The Great One.

B.T.W., thumbs up on that new avatar. Obviously 1966-67, based on the pic quality, Gleason's hairstyle et al.

Thanks! I thought it was time to update the previous avatar. But don't be surprised if you see the former again.....I have a fondness for those black and white days of TV.
