View Full Version : Where to find sitcoms from the 50s/60s/70s on a TV station near you in North America

It seems that every month, instead of every 3 to 4 months like in the past, TV stations are changing their minds about what to show the public in order to satisfy an ever-shrinking audience. So every month we get updated here about new shows that haven't been seen since the last round of changes suddenly making their way back and older shows that you thought would have had a solid place in the schedule now suddenly being replaced. This can be very confusing for viewers to keep track of so I've decided to help by making this thread. It contains a list of every series from the 1950s to the 1970s---my favorite era in TV history, and the one with more hard to find shows than in recent times---that is currently airing somewhere in North America, with Canadian stations listed first. Note that all times are local. 10:00 pm on ME-TV in Chicago represents 11:00 pm in New York and Toronto. All times are also assumed to be from Monday to Friday unless otherwise indicated. For the Retro TV stations, I've only been able to find schedules for the Buffalo, St. Louis, and Salt Lake affiliates. If you can find schedules for the other dozen or so RTN stations, post a reply and I'll update the lists for you. Whenever the networks make any changes to their lineups I will take note and make the necessary adjustments so check back often to see if your favourite shows are affected. OK class, pens and pencils ready? (or in this case, copy and paste tools) Here goes:

Great idea and I sure do wish there was a national channel that carried nothing but old sitcoms.
I'll add this it in case there are others here from Central Ohio.
WSFJ GTN 51(cable channel 2) out of Columbus Ohio runs Happy Days Mon-Fri from 7:00 to 7:30 PM.This channel up to a few months ago, used to run Green Acres.Hopefully it will be back on soon.

WSTR 64, Cincinnati's MyNetworkTV affiliate, airs "The Andy Griffith Show" at night. I believe the NBC affiliate in Huntington, West Virginia, also does. Come to think of it, I think Channel 30 (what's its affiliation now? It used to be UPN.) in Nashville, Tennessee, also does at night.

WTLW 44 in Lima, Ohio, which airs lots of Christian programming, was airing "The Brady Bunch" last I checked. (All of the stations airing "TBB" are--or at least used to be--listed at Bradyworld.com.)

'I Love Lucy' airs (and still does) on KTTV (FOX) Channel 11 in Los Angeles weekdays at 12:00 noon. They sometimes air 'The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour' which is split into half-hour shows.*

*Series re-titled for syndication 'We Love Lucy' and is rotated in the syndication package.

KTTV also airs a weekend helping of I Love Lucy from 4:00-6:00pm on weekends depending on the severity of FOX's network sports programming. Sometimes more than two hours of ILL is shown if it's a slow weekend day.

M*A*S*H aired briefly on KCOP-TV (My Network 13) at 9:00-10:00am weekdays started in September of this year and is now replaced by "Judge Hatchett" in that time slot.

All pretty common ****. How about a list of obscure, seldom seen shows running? Anyone airing December Bride? The Millionaire? Our Miss Brooks? The Gale Storm Show?

I've taken note of lots of changes to the list today, especially to some of the TV Land shows, since they changed much of their schedule in mid-January. The unofficial update, as of Jan. 22, is now complete.

a station in my area shows I LOVE LUCY on weekday afternoons. They're one of the rare stations that still shows it. Unfortunately, that, THE HONEYMOONERS and other black and white sitcoms are rarely seen anymore.

KDOC-TV is pretty good when it comes to keeping some old shows alive. They even air some Johnny Carson reruns!

WUPA/ch. 69 airs The Jeffersons, Good Times, and Sanford & Son
WAGA/ch. 5 airs M*A*S*H.
I think one of the religious stations still air b/w episodes of I Married Joan and The Beverly Hillbillies.
I believe that's it for here, with the exception of Pax/i/Ion.

When I entered my zip code on HSN's website it said HSN was not available on broadcast television in my area.

Yes, it does, Aaron. It's www.lifebroadcastingnetwork.org (http://www.lifebroadcastingnetwork.org/). There is no sign of HSN on there.

A quick reminder to everyone that I just updated the first page to include the times for all the changes that TV Land made for March. Personally, I don't see what the difference is. Does it really matter whether "I Love Lucy" is on at 11 am or 11 pm? If you like it, you'll watch or tape it. If not, there's always other channels. I'm sad to hear they took "The Brady Bunch" out. How long do you figure that will last? I'm thinking a couple of weeks, tops! Then I'll have to re-do the whole list again. Oh, well....

I have again updated the program list to account for the spring schedules of ME-TV and all of the RTN stations. If you ask me, ME-TV's new Sunday afternoon family block is exceptional. TV Land, please take note!

Wow, I did not know that we had "Gimme a Break!" on WUPL now. I know "Benson" and "227" came several months ago. When does GAB! come on?

ETA: Nevermind, I just found out at TVGuide.com. Weekdays at noon? That's SWEET, considering I dropped "All My Children" for the time being.

There is a religious network called 'Family Net' which broadcasts (according to their online schedule) 'The Loretta Young Show'-five times a week, 'I Married Joan' twice a week, and one episode a week of 'The Lucy Show', 'Life With Elizabeth', 'My Little Margie' and 'Meet Corliss Archer' (there's one you probably never heard of) which apparently is some 1951 comedy about a teenage girl. (If they're going to air something that obscure, perhaps they could run episodes of 'The Goldbergs', 'Beulah' or 'Jackson and Jill')

It would be cool if they aired December Bride and its spinoff, Pete and Gladys. Those were two shows from the '50s. Maybe Donna Reed and Father Knows Best as well?? The Farmer's Daughter??
