Ultimate cast for a properly done Honeymooners movie???

This was partially answered in my other thread but I would like to know from anyone on this message board what actors and actresses you feel would best be suited to play Ralph, Alice, Norton, and Trixie in a properly done Honeymooners movie. Also, from what perspective do you feel the movie should be done: perhaps redoing an existing plot/show. Would Ralph and Alice still be living in the same apartment? Or would you like to see Ralph finally succeed with one of his schemes and we find the Kramdens living the high life and wearing fancy clothes and driving expensive cars?

I don't have any picks for Alice and Trixie but for Ralph and Norton I would choose:

John Goodman as Ralph Kramden

Jim Carrey as Ed Norton :wave:

Good choice! I definitely could see Nicole Kidman doing an excellent job of portraying Alice.

Ralph- Of course John Goodman or Brad Garrett.
Norton- I really don't know. That's a tough one.
Alice- I always thought Patricia Heaton. She has that "no bull" thing worked perfectly just like Audrey did.
Trixie- I don't know.
I think I'd want to see them in the same ole apartment. Part of what made this show so funny was Norton & Ralph constantly messing up & the wives telling them so all along.

I just took a look at the pictures and I agree with you that Elizabeth Berkley would definitely make a good Alice.

I like what you said. The magic of the Honeymooners would be lost if they showed Ralph and Alice living in a mansion and having a maid and butler. It just wouldn't work if they did it that way. For me part of the fun is watching
Ralph trying to escape his poverty with one of his schemes where he's involving Norton in the process. :lol:

I liked the idea of them starting the movie off with how Ralph & Alice met, I just wasn't picturing Cedric the Entertainer dancing to rap music on a bus. I think they should've kept the movie in black & white and also in the 1950's, no point in modernizing it...that just goes against the show (even though they didn't really care about continuity on the show either). And while I agree the magic would be lost if they had Ralph & Alice living in a mansion, I think it would've been nice to see one of Ralph's crazy schemes actually work for a change and have a happy ending where we could just assume everything worked out for the best.

I forgot to bring that up but your right. Keep the movie in black and white and in the 1950's. I think those were major components of the charm of the Honeymooners.

Something like that has happened before. TBS had a Sanford & Son (minus the son) reunion some years ago. The only characters they had were Fred, Grady and Esther. Fred had a mansion in Beverly Hills which was also a Sanford and Son Museum. Don't ask me how he got the money. Esther and Grady were sort of the hosts. They also would show Fred and Grady watching clips of Sanford and Son reminiscing. I believe it was created when TBS put the show on its schedule.

Okay I know who I'd choose for Norton. Johnny Depp. Now before you all start the "what the heck" lol I'll give my reason.
Johnny Depp has in incredible ability to play "off" type of characters. Actually that's what most of his career is built on. In real life he's a very quiet, shy man who's had his problems with depression & drinking..just as Art Carney did. He has also said in a few interviews that he likes playing these types of characters because it's the opposite of who he is..again Art has said the same thing. So my thinking is that Johnny is very much like Art was & that he would have a better understanding of the "Norton" character & therefore would have that certain *something* that Art brought to life in "Norton."
Don't get me wrong Jim Carey is funny but IMO that's all he is. Norton was funny but there was more to him then that (his character that is) & I don't think Jim could possess that "silly, vulnerable, tough guy, innocence" that made the part of Norton so great. However I really believe Johnny could.

I can sort of see Johnny Depp as Norton, but I'm so used to seeing him playing serious roles. If I was the director, I'd definitely have to see his screen test first to see if he could pull it off. I heard soem actor say recently that it's much easier to go from playing serious roles to comedy, than vice versa. I guess it's because if people are so used to seeing you make people laugh, could you imagine stepping into the role as a serial killer and pulling that off? Think about it. Art Carney playing a serial killer. It just does not work for me, although he was such a versatile actor.

The thing with Johnny Depp is that he has proven himself in both areas.
Some of his best work is when he's playing a "silly" character -Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Pirates I & II etc.) Then he's got the occasional serious role where he shows once again he can pull anything off. Eh I guess it comes down to everyone's view on a certain actor. Me personally I can't take Jim Carey for more than 10minutes, while others love him.

Your right Art was a very versatile actor. I've seen a few clips from movies that required him to be very serious & he did a wonderful job...so good that I would never have imagined him playing crazy ole Norton. Then again when he stepped back into Norton I could never imagine him playing anything else...the man was good lol.
