HOLLYWOOD - Big-screen Spider-Man Tobey Maguire is considering hanging up his Spandex suit for good after appearing in his third superhero movie next year.
The actor, who became a first-time dad earlier this month, is keen to spend more time with his daughter Ruby and confesses it would be a good time to retire from the hit franchise.

He says, "This might be a good place to stop--I am not tied contractually to anymore Spider-Man movies.

"I am not completely closed to the idea of another one if it made sense but I would say the odds were in favor of this being the last one."

Last month Maguire's costar and onscreen love interest Kirsten Dunst hinted she's keen to ditch the movies too and take up art instead.

She said, "I'm not the type of actress who does movie after movie."

It would be sad if it were the last one, there are so many more characters to write about to continue. There's Electro, Rhyino, Hobgoblin, Vulture, Lizard, Mysterio, etc. They can't stop now.

I agree. I mean, even if he did quit, that wouldn't necessarily mean the end of the franchise. They can always hire somebody else.

If this is his last Spiderman, they'll probably get Jake Gylenhall to replace him. I think he'd be the obvious choice since they look so much alike, both facially, and body type wise.

I never really liked Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. I thought he was miscast. It would be interesting to see who they bring in if anybody.

I think everyone involved with the three Spiderman movies have had a great run. It's rare that you'd even get a director to return for a sequal much less two.

If they want to totally recast a Spiderman 4, I woudln't lose any sleep over it, although I doubt it will be as good as the previous ones.

Hmm, I've heard that comparison before, but other than the smile, I don't think they look much alike (actually, I was just watching Pleasantville last night). I think Tobey looks a lot like Topher Grace (although I do think Topher's a LOT hotter :happyface )

I wonder if Topher could pull off Spiderman after this Venom stuff?

Topher could play Spiderman pretty well I think, Jake too

My only thing is if they DO do a Spiderman 4 lets just hope its better than Superman 4 ( love the first 3, the 4th one was pure dreck, even with Lex Luthor back in the pictturew) and Batman and Robin ( while its a guilty pleasure of mine, the first 3 are much better)

So yeah if Spiderman 4 happens lets hope it breaks "The Fourth Superhero Movie Series Movie Curse"

I'm surprised that so many people would want to see a fourth film with a new cast. I honestly think three is enough for now and that recasts would be a mistake. The only way recasts could work, imo, is if they waited several years before doing another Spiderman film after the third installment is released.

I don't necessarily agree with that. If we were talking about an actor like Christopher Reeve, or Jack Nicholson or someone like that, I could understand people thinking recasting would be a mistake, but we're talking about Tobey Maguire here. I mean, he's a good actor, don't get me wrong, but I honestly don't think he's irreplaceable. When I think of Superman, I instantely think of Christopher Reeve, and always will. When I think of Spiderman, Tobey Maguire doesn't instantaneously come to my mind in the same way. I can probably think of atleast 5 other actors who I think would be able to take on that role.

exactly Tobey is not associated with the role in the same way that Christopher Reeve or Adam West were as Superman or Batman----

Tobey can be replaced and as long as the movie is good, it wont make any difference

I guess I like Tobey in the role and even though it may not seem like he'd be hard to replace I feel like it'd be a mistake.

I never thought dat Tobey Maguire was a good choice, but I'm glad he took dat cuz dat f***t @()* James Franco was the original choice for Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Thank God dat didn't happen cuz James Franco's whack.
