Preview/test the "new" boards

I will be most likely switching the boards over to vBulletin very soon (possibly Saturday). I've put up a test board for people to play around with and for me to try out the settings, so feel free to register over there and try it out.

For those who visit other boards that use it, what do you like/dislike about vBulletin?

Here are some features it has:

Polls, Avatars, Private Messages, Buddy Lists, Who's Online, you can set the posts to your own timezone, e-mail notification on any thread that you subscribe to, you can set it so you don't have to view people's signatures or avatars, 'instant' smilies

Overall the board will probably be 30-35% faster especially the searches.

I'll be importing all the posts and member files, so nothing will be lost.

I haven't transferred anything over yet, and yes your mod credentials will be transferred.

Try registerring under a test different name. Your name or password here won't work on the test board.

IMO, it will take some getting used to, what with all the new features, but I think it will be good.

TJ, those new boards look way cool. My only complaint is I wish there were more smilies, like we have here. But otherwise, the avatars, the colored text, all the options, it is way cool.

To answer questions:

1) Yes the username and password you are using here will work on the new board once I've transferred everything over.

2) All the smilies see here will be on the hew board, I only imported a few of them to test out.

Not dumb...took me a bit of searching to find it...click on "user cp", "edit options"...look down at the very bottom of that list, and there is the thing where you can change your avatar. You can upload a pic from your PC or use something from the web.

Well, I only took a peek at it. But I can see I will have to take more than that. It is quite complex, I believe. Not that that is bad. In many ways that is good. It is certainly different. I am 69% for it. I'd be 100% for it except for that one nagging fact that I hate change. But I supose you couldnt fix that problem, now could you? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif


I predict it would take many months if not a year for me to get used to ALL the new features. I see it as a fun new challenge. Great work TJ, and bring it on!!!

Agent44....it shouldn't matter. TJ said he is going to delete all the test posts when he transfers over.

Isn't this new board going to take up a ton of bandwidth, with everyone having avatars and posting pics and stuff? I guess I don't know much about it, and it's not my concern, but it seems like it would...

Thanks for letting us give the new boards a whirl, TJ, so whenever you make the transfer I won't be totally lost!
