This morning on the radio, one of the DJ's was saying that he hated gift cards, giving them and receiving them.
Does anybody else feel this way?
I love getting them. I don't mean to sound ungrateful and I know that when getting a gift, it's the thought that counts but I've gone through alot of years of getting gifts I don't want, or need, or like. I'll take the gift card, thank you!!

i like getting actual gifts more just cause it...well, they're more interesting, lol...but gift cards are great because you can just spend them on anything you want.

I rather get a gift card than a present that I would hate.

I like receiving gift cards or certificates, as I can pick out what I want for myself! :)

I love gift cards. I can use them on whatever I want and I don't have to use them right away, I can wait for something I really want to come out and use it then.

I like gift cards. They're kind of like getting money as a gift, only a bit more personal.

Agreed :) I also like having the freedom to get whatever I want.

Gift cards. Love giving them, love getting them. What I often do is attach it to a nice Hallmark calendar for a Christmas gift.

I guess it depends what kind of gift card. If it's one to a specific store that I never shop at, then I wouldn't want it. But I generally do like getting gift cards, although I don't like giving them out.

I used to hate gift cards/certificates, but now I like them. You can buy whatever you want with it.

I love them! Especially when it comes to clothing stores. My parents would have no idea what kind of clothes I like.

I love them. I get one for my brother every Christmas because he's hard to shop for. With a giftcard he can get what he wants.

I like giving gift cards because (1) they're easy to buy, and (2) there's a far lesser risk that the recipient will be upset compared to a traditional gift. I mean, he/she's free to spend the money on what he wants, but as long as it's at the store.
As to receiving them, I always tend to forget that I have them. For instance, I have one gift certificate I got last year for Christmas which I have yet to use-LOL.

Love getting them, but I hate giving them. The only person I ALWAYS get a gift card for is my brother, because I just don't know what he likes, so it's easier to get him a gift card to Walmart or something like that. Everyone else I love hunting and picking out the perfect present. I am pretty good at getting good presents, but I work hard at it!

I only buy gift cards and certificates for the truly hard to please people on my list, especially my younger sister. I like to take the time to pick out nice gifts for other people. On the receiving end, I find it so much more meaningful to open a gift that someone took the time to select for me than a plain old gift card.

One thing to be careful about those is, if you don't use them after a certain amount of time, usually 6 months or a year, they start charging you a fee of like $3 a month. I learned that the hard way. I don't know what stores do it, but I know I had one from Dick's that did.

Gift cards are ok, but I'd rather receive a gift that someone spent the time picking out. I think it means more when someone takes the time and effort to pick out something for someone. It doesn't take much effort to buy a gift card. I don't mean to make that sound ungrateful, but I think half the fun is opening a prsent. :) You can't exactly 'open' a gift card.
I agree. Their's just something about opening a present that makes Christmas more exciting. I get mostly money which I like because I can get what I want and don't get tied down to one store so I never get gift cards.

I don't mind them, but like others have said, it's nicer to be able to actually open something. If someone wants to get me clothes, then I prefer a gift card because otherwise I'm just going to have to exchange it and all that.

I like getting them, so I can pick out my present, and avoid pretending I like something that may suck. They're nice to give too, because I don't like shopping and spending lots of time to look for the right gifts, which could also end up sucking.
