Why don't half the people who enter a stall, do their business, flush the toilet and just walk out of the public restroom not wash their hands? That's a pet peeve of mine. I see women doing that (and I might imagine men do this as well), and it irks me. That's just....unsanitary and disgusting. Don't people know they touch the handle and door and then touch over things along the way that is just germ-spreadable? Does anyone know why people do that? It just doesn't make sense to me.

To those of you who do that and/or know someone who does that - why do people do this?

Like Blair on The Facts Of Life I avoid public restrooms as much as possible. When I do use a public restroom I always wash my hands.

The other day I took my little girl to the potty. While I was washing my little girl hands. This lady walks right out of the stall and walked right out the door without washing her hands. And the deal is, she wasn't the only one who did it, another lady came in to pee and she walked right out without washing her hands also. That was the grosses thing I've seen, And to top it off, WE WERE AT A RESTAURANT!

Even when your at home you should wash your hands after using the toilet.

I know what you mean. I went to a restaurant last week, and had to go to the bathroom. When I was in there, three guys ended up walking out without washing their hands. When I got back to my seat, I was just hoping that the waiters and waitresses weren't anything like the customers. Some people are just plain gross!!

That is nasty. Keep in mind also that you can scrub your hands, but once you touch that doorknob to leave the restroom, you're picking up the germs of the slob before you that didn't wash their hands. I know someone who uses a paper towel to open the door.

*raises hand* I do that. I don't want to contract any germs on the door knobs, so I use a paper towel to open the door. Then, I will throw the paper towel in a trash can outside of the public restroom. I am paranoid about germs.

I posted this thread in another forum, and one Finnish girl brought up something interesting. She says she has seen some restrooms that have a little sink inside the restroom stall. Wow...I've never heard/seen that. I guess it must be in the most expensive hotel rooms/restaurants or something?

Even if there's a little sink, I would still wash my hands in the main sink areas. I mean, I'd hate to wash my hands, open the stall door and then get a paper towel. It would defeat the purpose of my paper towel usage when opening the main restroom entrance door.

You know two, if you include me.

I've always wanted to invent a sensor device to put in bathrooms. Whenever it detects that someone has gone from a stall or urinal directly out the bathroom door without first stopping at the sink, an alarm should sound in the vicinity outside of the bathroom: "DANGER! DANGER! UNSANITARY PERSON! DANGER! DANGER!"

 Yeah, then a hidden bucket can dump hot water all over their unsanitary asses.

It's so gross to see people walk out of the restroom without washing their hands. It's also really gross to walk into a stall and see a toilet that hasn't been flushed. :puke:
I agree. I learned how to flush a toilet a very very long time ago...did no one else? O_o

I don't like touching things in public.

With apologies to Larry David, another pet peeve I have is when people use the handicapped accessible stalls when there are others available. Some of us with physical disabilities really need those grab bars on most days.

My roommate does that same nasty mess. She will use the bathroom, spray and then go back to her room. I don't understand that all! I don't dare eat anything she cooks either. Oh Hell Naw!!

The funny thing is she has dial soap to wash her hands. Tell me why her soap is still full and mine on the other hand is almost empty? Just trifling!

I saw that once, in the summer of 1984 (I was 12-LOL). It was in the handicapped stall. My take is that the sink is for handicapped people to wash their hands more comfortably than at the traditional sinks.

Oh, and for the record I ALWAYS wash my hands after, well, doing #1 or #2. :D The only exception is those ancient waterless restrooms at rest areas along US highways in Wisconsin, at least in 2002, plus near Camden, OH, on US 127, with no sinks. I seem to remember Colorado had these types of waterless small rest areas along I-25 at Raton Pass north of New Mexico in 1990; by 2005 they were updated and HUGE!!!

Ah, okay. That makes total sense then. I guess they're just mainly for the handicap stalls.

I do that, too. I don't use public restrooms, though, unless I really have to.

That was so a far side joke, too lol!

I try to avoid public restrooms as much as possible, but when it becomes absolutely necessary, I always inspect first....does it look clean? is it flushed? is there tp? ok..good to go...but make it fast! And WASH YOUR HANDS!!! That's just sick! I mean, how lazy do you have to be to not wash your hands?! I really hope a non-hands washer posts and explains this mysterious action!

Someone posted this in another forum under the same topic, so I thought I'd share it with you. It's hilarious.
