My Grandpa Passed Away

My paternal grandfather passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 a little bit before 9PM.

He had a mild stroke back in August, but he never really recovered from it, so he got moved to a nursing home. This past Sunday night, he had an even worse stroke that left him brain-dead. He and his family made a decision a long time ago of his wishes to be removed from life support in such a situation. The plug got pulled on Wednesday night and my grandpa went about an hour and a half later.

Although his health pretty much deteriorated this past year and he had trouble remembering a lot of things, I always enjoyed being in his company. He was a huge part of my life. He and my grandma brought their seven kids to the US from the Philippines and those kids went on to give my grandparents fifteen grandchildren, and overall helped create and shape part of the family I adore so much. I will miss my grandpa greatly.

:( hey i'm really sorry about your grandpa i do know how you feel i lost all my grandparents and my grandpa was the last one to go...so i know how you feel i really do! he even had a stroke too and he was in and out of the nurseing home too yeah even though he still remebered everybody thank goodness! i guess i wouldn't have missed him so much if he hadn't been my last grandparent but he was...well anyway i thought you'd like to know that someone out there knows what your going though :)

I am so sorry. I lost my Grandpa last November. He was 98 and was in my life for 47 years. I lost a great friend, supporter, listener and companion. We lived together, travelled together and talked together. Those were some of the most rewarding times of my life.

I know your loss leaves an empty hole in your life, but he will always be in your heart.

I never know what to say in these situations... But, at least half of us here have lost one or more grandparents so if you want to just talk about it, go ahead. I am sending sympathies your way. It's never easy dealing with the loss of a grandparent, especially the ones that had a big part in your life. :( I know... I lost my maternal grandpa to a severe heart attack in 1997, and he was a big part of my life.

He was 77. He would've turned 78 in January.
