This is mostly targeting people who believe in the whole "soulmates" theory. You always hear that people having soulmates out there somewhere. It could be for love or even for friendship or even a stranger who has helped you tremendously, but do you think it's possible to have odd types of soulmates?

By "odd" I mean that you have a strange interactive relationship with someone where you've had up and down moments and can't seem to get them off your mind or heart, despite the weird moments? I am trying to theorize if that "can't get them out of your mind" theory is from something unexplainable over why you can't stop holding a special place in your heart for them. I've been thinking about this quite a lot during the last couple of days, especially of dwindled friendships. Sometimes I think no one understands me with this, but I just can't explain this. Am I really crazy in believing this? Is it really that unreal for people to doubt my belief/heart? I do believe in this "odd soulmate" theory, for some strange and psychotic reason. I just can't explain it. It's as though there is some form of cosmic mysticism or something special about them. Anyone else feel this way? I would really like to talk deeply about this to anyone who also believes the same way I do. I very much doubt many will also, but I never know.

Does anyone else believe in this? Why, or why not? Any experiences to share? Good and bad?

I've felt that way about someone before. In fact I still ponder why I ever liked the kid. There's absolutely no reason for me to be attracted to him. He wasn't some gorgeous person. But there was just something and yeah...I still don't feel that way but I still can't say I've totally broken away from him.

I don't think I found my "Soulmate" yet, but I must say, I do like the idea of the "Odd Soulmate." I can relate to this, because I usually date people who are different from me. I think it's more interesting that way. And much more fun!

Hey Mona,

Let's just say I totally buy in to that idea and am currently going through this situation myself (I'll have to PM you about it--I'd rather not discuss it on the board) :)

Hmmm....very interesting answers, everyone. Thank you for your input. I am glad you all who have replied understand what I meant by "odd soulmate." I posted this in another forum, and some people had NO idea what I was talking about.

Kristel, cool. Yeah, go ahead and PM me. I also wanted to PM you in private as well.

Anymore responses? :)

I don't know honestly. I'd like to believe in all types of soulmates....I think that the best example is my best friend. We've been best friends off and on for 8 years....for several of those years, however, we really only talked like once or twice a year. If we EVER saw each other, we were lucky. But when we did talk or whatnot, we always picked up right where we left off. It's only of late that we have been able to connect and stay connected in a continuous stream for several months, and it's been fantastic, so I guess that we're probably destined to be friends no matter what.

Probably more along the lines of what you're going for, however, is a friend I made last year where we were super close for a real long time, but for the past like 7 months, we've been super on-again, off-again, and never really picking up right where we left off, but for some reason, always picking up. I don't know why I continue to try to have any form of relationship with him because it is really, really destructive and painful to me (in that he pretty much just uses me and takes advantage of me), but for some reason, I always get over being mad at him and resume our "friendship" of sorts...and we do have a lot of similarities that draw us together, so perhaps we are destined to always be "fake friends" as I know refer to it.

I guess ultimately I want to believe in soulmates, especially the standard romantic ones because I really want to believe that someday I will meet that one that will make me so happy....but then again, is there really just one?

You just discussed EXACTLY what I have with my best friend :) We have that type of relationship where, even though we only see each other once or twice a year, we still pick up where we left off and not much changes. We have the ability to relate to one another, even after all these years (she moved away from New York a few years ago, but we still manage visits and talking through emails, ims, etc). It's awesome :)
