View Full Version : Wash your car yourself...or go to car wash?

I prefer going to the car wash. Preferably the ones where I don't have to leave my car. If I need a lavish detail on my car, then I will go to the places where I must get out of the car and let them take their time detailing. But most of the time, I don't have time to waste waiting around. I rarely take it anymore to a place to wash myself. I used to do that before, but I just don't have the time to deal with that anymore. I never wash my car at home either.

myself. car washes are horrible for your paint. those brushes and such are dirty, which causes swirl marks in the clear coat. the only time i will take my car to the car wash is in the winter, to get all the salt and crap off of it but even then i take it to a brushless car wash.

Sometimes I wash it myself. Don't laugh, but I didn't start washing my own car until I was 20. I usually had someone else to do it.
But if I feel like it, I'll take it to the wash, the only problem, three of these 'kids' are always hitting on me. Maybe i'll bring a bat next time.

I do both. But I mostly go to a car wash and when I do, I get a good wax job behind it. Sometimes if I am in a hurry, I go to a laser wash, especially if it has been snowing, and it built up salt.

I do both; it depends on if I have the time, mainly.

I don't have a car, but if I did, I'd just save money, and let the rain take care of it. (I live in Oregon). LOL!!

I live right alongside the Max tracks, which is sort of like a subway that's in the middle of the road. I have a yearly pass for it, so I just ride it whenever I need to get anywhere. Yesterday I was going to ride it, and someone from the road shot a gun into the max right around the same time I was going to be on it, and right at the stop that I usually go to. Thank goodness I found someone to give me a ride instead. Here's a picture of the max going through downtown Portland.

I go to a drive-thru car wash. I live in an apartment complex, and I have no other choice to wash my own car with a house hose or anything. Washing it at those "self-wash" places waste a lot of quarters anyway. So, I just pay the $8 and have it go through.

We have a service that comes to work every Thursday and washes the cars. I usually have mine washed every week. I usually have it waxed on every couple of months....

That's actually not good for your vehicle. The dirt/grease/debris gets caked on it and can ruin the shell and glass windows.
Speaking of needing a car wash, I haven't had mine washed in nearly two months! It's the longest I haven't washed it.  I should get mine washed tomorrow since I have half of the day off.

aka a tram
we're finally starting to get those around here too. weve got two lines but in 6 years, we'll have almost 10. so much more convienient (not to mention cheaper) than having to waste money on gas, parking, etc. :)

Yeah, tram is definitely a better description of it. Thanks for the correction. I couldn't think of the right word. LOL!! You're absolutely right though, they are definitely convenient, especially the closer you live to them. We've had lightrail/tram here in Oregon since 1987, and it's made my life so much easier. And of course with gas prices being as high as they are these days, I'm guessing the average person who rides it instead of driving, probably saves atleast $1,000 per year. The only thing I don't like about riding the Max, is that you get alot of punks, and gang members riding it as well, and they'll often harass passengers and stuff. But I think the pros of having it definitely outweigh the cons.
