SCAFFLES? I defintely have a phobia about walking under scaffles in downtown philly, i always think they are unstable and going to collapse. This morning I had to walk under one and i was having a mild panic attack and couldn;t wait to get from under it. Anyone else feel this way about Scaffles?

I hate walking under them. If possible, I cross the street to avoid them. Earlier this year, here in Boston, scaffolding broke. Two workers fell to their deaths, and another man was killed when it fell on his car while he was at a redlight.
I posted about it here.

I just remembered that about 30 years ago, my mother's best friend...her son was working construction on the side of a huge church. The scaffolding broke and he fell. He didn't die, but he was severely brain damaged. Poor guy was only in his early 20s. He ended up dying about 15 years later.
Also, a woman who used to work with my mother...her brother died when scaffolding gave in.
Scaffolding is EVIL.

Same here. The other day, I was in the neighborhood square, and there was very low scaffolding on a book store. I crossed the street, rather than walking under it. They even had a little wooden covered walkway, but I wouldn't walk under that either.

Never worried about that but I always hated walking over a street drain with the grated openings. Or any section of sidewalk that has a metal sheet over it to cover an opening.

When I was 9 my dad and i were sitting on 1, and the fountains went off all at once, and soaked us both and i was terrified for years!

I try to avoid them if I can. If not, I just walk quickly until i'm out from under them.
The metal grates and coverings on the sidewalk are another thing I try to avoid. I hate walking on them.

I guess I don't walk around scaffolds enough to worry. But I wouldn't volunteer to get on one.

I just meant in their vicinity to worry about even walking around them, much less under them. And no, I probably wouldn't walk under one anyway.

Try walking ON scaffolding. Now that just sucks, especially when it's a couple stories off the ground. Or more.

My cousin was doing construction with a friend of his (who did not have the proper insurance on the scaffolding...!) and fell to his death. My cousin's wife sued and got a crapload of money.
My boyfriend almost went into construction this year and I almost cried. I begged him not to. It scares me so much.
