It would be nice to see Van Halen get inducted.

As to which lead singer will show up with the band, that's anyone's guess right now.

;)

It looks like we're probably going to have R.E.M. and Van Halen. I'd like to see Van Halen put aside their differences for just one night (like The Police did three years ago) and just do a few one-off songs with Dave and Mike.

As for R.E.M., I'm sure we'll see Bill Berry play at the induction. The band never had a falling out with him; he just retired for health reasons, and has played a few gigs with the band since leaving eight years ago.

And Sammy too! :D

I heard a radio interview a number of months ago with Michael Anthony and even though he didn't come right out and say it, it doesn't seem like he is on speaking terms with the Van Halen brothers. At least that is the impression I was left with. And, of course, Sammy and Roth are not on speaking terms with the brothers. I think if the band does get intucted into the Hall Of Fame that they should do at least one song with Sammy and at least one song with Dave. I think "Jump" and "Right Now" would be the two best songs to perform since they are the most famous songs from each era of the band.

Patti Smith and The Ronettes deserve it.

...........oh, R.E.M. were OK in the early days, now they've gone 100% whimpy....that's why they're in the 90% chance category, ehm?!

Statistically, they have the best odds of anyone on that list, including Van Halen. No matter how you feel about their more recent offerings (most of which I happen to like, although they're certainly not the same without Bill Berry), there's no denying the mark they made on alternative music, especially the "college rock" scene.

REM put out a volume of quality that can't be debated.

They were the kings of college radio and were huge beyond that facet.
I saw REM in 1983 (I was 16) because I loved their first two albums, but I actually hated their performance. Stipe was uncomfortable it seemed.

Michael Stipe actually got better with age, and every album up to the last with Bill Berry was either excellent, very good, or a classic.

I agree, but Van Halen NEVER went THAT whimpy...EVER!!! That's the big diff...like it or not! And I conclude by saying that music is HIGHLY subjective.....luckily!!;)

Exactly. Music is highly subjective. One man's "wimpy" is another man's "beautiful."

But I'd argue with your point that Van Halen never went that wimpy. A lot of the stuff they did with Sammy was pretty schmaltzy.

I have to totally disagree with that. VH did a lot more ballads with Sammy, but there was still plenty of heavy stull like "Black And Blue", "Poundcake", "Aftershock"...among countless others. I have found that people who think that the music that the band made with Sammy is too "soft" haven't even listened to the four albums as a whole, but are making judgements based on the songs that get played most on the radio, which are the "softer" songs. As far as songs like "Love Walks In", "Dreams", and "When It's Love", I love these songs since I am a sucker for a good balled and assong like "When It's Love" is about as good a power ballad as there is.

Even though I can't stand REM, I do admit that they had a huge impact on the alternative rock scene and they deserve to be honored for that.

Undoubtedly, but a band like that should have stuck to its roots.....there are TOO MANY whimpy bands out there already!!!
