First Warning Forecast


Arctic cold has settled into the Capital Region. With gusty winds at times today, wind chill values will be near zero or below throughout the afternoon.

Skies will be mainly clear tonight. As the wind dies out, temperatures will drop to near zero by morning. Outlying areas will be below zero.

The next storm is set for tomorrow evening and overnight. Clouds will increase and thicken during the day and light snow will break out around the evening commute. It will continue to snow overnight. There is the chance that the snow will mix with and change to sleet and freezing rain, especially south of Albany by Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning's drive will be slow either way. It will start to clear out by Wednesday afternoon and Thursday looks much better.

The next storm we are tracking looks to be here by the end of the weekend.

After a dry, cold start to the day today, clouds will increase and thicken and light snow will break out around the evening commute. It will continue to snow overnight, heavy at times. The snow will mix with and change to sleet and freezing rain, especially in Albany and points south by tomorrow morning. Tomorrow morning's drive will be slow either way. Snow will continue in the North Country through the afternoon while a changeover to plain rain will occur to the south. It will start to clear out by tomorrow evening and Thursday looks much better.

The next storm we are watching looks to be here by the end of the weekend.

The snow from last evening has changed over to sleet and freezing rain. Significant icing is occurring across the Greater Capital District as temperatures are well down into the 20's. As we head through the morning temperatures will slowly climb above freezing and we will have plain rain this afternoon. The North Country will see snow changing to sleet and freezing rain as temperatures stay below 32 all day.

Rain, also last night we had a earthquake/tremor, it lasted for ten seconds, it was scary.
BRITAIN was rocked by a major earthquake early today.

The tremor was felt across 300 miles from Brighton to County Durham and from Norfolk to Wales.

People were shaken from their beds shortly before 1am with buildings rocked and huge cracks appearing in walls.

The earthquake was measured at 4.7 on the Richter Scale with its epicentre in Lincolnshire. It was not immediately known how much damage had been caused but there were no reports of anybody being injured.

It is thought to have been the biggest earthquake to have struck the UK in years.

Emergency services across the country were flooded with calls from worried residents.

Stunned Mark Young said he looked out of his window and saw an EIGHT FOOT crack in his neighbour’s garden at LEICESTER.

He said: “There was a big crack through the ground and there was smoke and flames coming out. It was spitting things out.

“It is about eight foot long and about two foot wide. I was completely shocked.”

John Burton feared his house, in WAKEFIELD, West Yorkshire, was going to fall down as he watched television.

He said: “I was left shaking. I was really scared. It shook the whole house.”

Metal worker Simon Smith, 38, from CHATTERIS, Cambs, said: “It felt like a juggernaut was going down my road.

Student Moses Wiener, 19, from NOTTINGHAM, told how his whole house shook.

He added: “We could feel it underneath us. Everything was moving from side-to-side. I’ve never experienced anything like it in my life.”

Philip Cass, aged 53 years, from WELLINGBOROUGH, Northamptonshire, said: “I was just sitting watching the TV and my chair started moving and the glass cabinet was wobbling.

“My wife was with me. She was stunned.”

Six years ago the West Midlands was hit by an earthquake in the Dudley area that reached 5.0 on the Richter Scale and caused damage to many homes.
