Okay, here is the report. I warn you now, it is long.

We left town Saturday morning at 5 am to get to the airport by 6 when it opens because my flight left at 7 am central time.

I gotta tell ya, this was first time at an airport since Sept. 11th. It was really weird seeing armed soldiers all over the place. It was unreal you know what I mean?

Anyway, I got stopped at the metal detector because my boots were setting the detector off. So they did the hand metal detector and then patted me down. I had no objections what so ever. Glad they are doing the job. Flew out no problems, the plane was pretty packed. Flew into Dallas on time and jumped on the train to go from the Satelite terminal to Terminal C. Had to go through security again, and once again my boots set it off, so I was searched again. I had no objections because we had some time to spare before the plane left.

Flew out of Dallas no problem and got to Jacksonville about 10 minutes early at 12:20 pm eastern time. I gotta tell ya, they place has changed. They are in the process of remodeling the airport. I was impressed that I recognized it. The only thing that had not changed was that it took forever to get the luggage http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif Oh well, at least it got there.

Then we jumped on the shuttle bus that took us to my rental car. It was a pretty nice car. It was 2 pm by the time we finally got to the hotel. The Hilton was NICE. I saw a few friends and then we went to the restaurant in the hotel to get some lunch (we never did have breakfast that morning) By the time we finished lunch, there were about 6 YR's that were sitting there with us.

We left the hotel about 5 pm to head on out to Orange Park. I was SO excited. I lived there for 5 years. That was the longest time I had lived anywhere prior to Texas. As I was driving down my old road I was just bouncing up and down in my seat I was so excited. I got to my friends house and I just jumped out of the car. She had the door open waiting for me. We hugged for a few minutes, both talking at the same time.

It was great. I spent about 3 hours at her house that night looking at her highschool year books seeing if I recognized anybody. I finally gave up looking at the pictures and just looked for the names I knew. She was telling me what had happend to the people that I had known. She was telling me who had gotten married to whom and who had kids now.

Then she pulled out a video tape of a play we had done in the 2nd grade. It was great to watch us back then http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

I left about 8 that night to get back to the hotel because the New York Delegation and the Texas Delegation were co-hosting a party that night to raise money for the New York Fire Fighters Widows and Orphans Fund. The night was great. We had an auction, a raffle, and passed the hat around. We raised over $1100. The party lasted until 2 am. I'll end this post here and post again about what happened Sunday.

So we slept in Sunday becasue we were up sp late the night before. Got up at 9, showered, packed and left the hotel by 10 to go back to Orange Park.

I went by to see a couple that we had met while stationed in Florida. They had not changed at all. I spent about 1.5 hours visiting them. I left about 12:30 to go meet my friend and her family at an Italian restaurant. It was great to see her parents. They were eating with another couple who had two young kids with them. My friend told me that they were the parents of somebody I knew years ago. He had married a girl that I knew and the kids were theirs. I was shocked that the 2 of them had hooked up.

After lunch, we started driving around town to see what all had changed. I was pretty shocked. I didn't recognize to many things. The biggest shock for me was my old church. They had built a new sanctuary in front of the old one which is now the youth room. I only recognized it because of the sign up front. I had to look at it from the side and be told "That is the old sanctuary" to recognize it. It was pretty cool to see that it had grown that much. It had gotten so big that they turned our "football/water balloon field" over the creek into a parking lot.

I left Orange Park around 3 to head back to the hotel to see if anybody needed a lift to the airport. There were several of us leaving around the same time. A van had already been called for them so I told them to call me when they got to the airport.

So I tok off to return the car and head to the airport. We went to the bar for a few drinks while we waited for everyone else. We missed each other somewhere along the line because when we got through security, no problems for once, (my boots didn't set it off that time) they were already at the gate when we walked down there. So we all sat around talking. We had 2 hours until the last of our planes would leave. After the first plane left, we had an hour and a half to go until the rest of ours left. 3 of us were on one flight and 2 others were on another flight. My plane left at 6:15 pm and the other one left at 6:30. So since we had a while to go, we grabbed a bite to eat then grabbed a beer at the bar.

At 6 we headed down to our gate, told the others bye and loaded the plane. The plane was packed all the way back to Dallas. We had 1.5 hours at Dallas, so we could relax for a bit. We got out of Dallas before the storm hit, several planes were delayed for hours because of it. We were late taking off because the crew wa a bit late getting there. We beat them to the plane. So we had to wait until they checked out the plane before we could load. Once again the plane was loaded. We got home about 11 pm central time and then we had to wait for our luggage. By the time we got the luggage, we were starving. So we stopped and grabbed a burger on the way home. Got home after midnight and then had to unload my bags. My dogs we SO happy to see me. I was so tired all I wanted to do was go to bed, but i had to take care of my animals.

It was after 1 when I finally got some sleep. I was tired. I was so tired, I slept through my alarm and was late for work today (they thought it was funny).

So that's how my weekend went. I can't wait until I develope the pictures from Florida.

I have to admit I have always been terrified of flying even before all this 9-11 stuff! I have no plans ever to do so, so I guess I'll only ever get as far as my car will take me! I won't even climb a ladder!Glad you had a fun and safe trip AGS! you are a better man than I! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ahh, I'm with ya. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink2.gif

It's just that, several people have thought that I was a guy because of my nic and the fact that I played a bunch of sports in school.

REALLY? I thought you were a guy too (sorry http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif )!!!!

Hey Ags...sorry to change the subject, but do you live anywhere near San Antonio? The reason why I am asking is because I will be attending a conference there next year, and I want to know what it's like.

LOL No problem.

I live about 2 hours south east of San Anton. San Antonio is a really nice town. When you go, you HAVE to go see the Alamo. It like a law or something. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

I think it is neat to see it there in the middle of the city like it is. Just to sit there and thank back on what all happened on those grounds. It is pretty neat.

Let's see... what else is there to do...
The River walk is really nice. Get on a boat and check it out. It's sweet. Also, the riverwalk is by the mall. The mall is great, good shopping there. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Out of curiosity, what type of convention are you coming down here for?

Blair: Well, how do you like my tree?
Nat: What are bananas doing on a Palm Tree?
Blair: The bird needed something to sit on. Besides, I wanted a splash of color.
Jo: You want color? Shoot the bird!

I am coming for a national conference as part of the international organization I am a part of (a professional organization serving the exchange of students to and from the U.S.). What a lovely time I picked to enter the field of international education, huh? (No matter, I'm not going to let recent events discourage me from what I really want to do...)

Anyway, thanks for the info http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
