In this brand new dramatic series the lives of an ordinary family facing ordinary problems comes into focus as each of the five Hamilton children face different life problems and struggle to find answers; and have a hard time relating to each other...
With an All-star cast, including Brooke Sheilds, Swoosie Kurtz, Maura Tierny and Harry Hamlin.....
At the center of this show is the youngest Hamilton sibling; Marcus Walker Hamilton a 23 year old gay artist and writer living in New York's Greenwich villiage area who has recently ended a very tramautic relationship with his older, 43 year old boyfriend, Thomas, an art gallery owner who has stolen most of his 30 thousand dollar book-advance which he was given to write a book about his famous family... Marcus is the black-sheep of the Hamilton family having left home at sixteen to "find himself" , much to the dismay of his father, a conservative-republican who wanted his son to stay at home, finish high school and get a football scholarship to attend an Ivy League school... When he left home, Marcus also turned down a sizable amount of money (5 million dollars) that his mother offered him to "keep you safe"... he wanted to make it on his own... the only memeber of the family he has contacted since leaving home is older sister, Heather Hamilton-McCobb (Brooke Shields) who is a stay-at-home mother of one daughter; Kesley who is fifteen years old, she iscurrently married to a controlling and anything but sensitive Defense Attorney who spends more time at work than he does with his family... Heather has her own share of problems, including the startling realization that at 42 she may be getting too old to have another child; which her husband Charles has promised her for the last ten years... For the last nine years Heather has also been involved in a big feud with her older brother, Cory, a new york state senator over a bill he has proposed that would make it illegal for women who have still-borns to sue their doctors for malpractice; something she personally has expieranced, This bill also infuriates Cory's girlfriend, Marla, who recently gave birth to his own still born child, three months ago... Her closest sibling is Matthew, her 35 year old brother who runs a free-clinic in The Bronx and with whom she shares many deep secrets, including the fact that prior to her wedding to Charles she had an affair with another man... The last Hamilton sibling is Maureen Hamilton who everyone calls "Marnie" she is the youngest Hamilton sibling at the age of 21, she is currently enrolled in New York University's Legal program, to appease her father; and is starting to realize that her real passion in life just may be Jorunalism which her father dissapporves of very much... She is also involved in an intense and borderline dangerous relationship with a series of different men... A virtual wild-child she has also expiermented with drugs and alcohol and has had several preganancies scares, but what's about to happen to her, just may be the scariest thing she's ever encountered... The only person in her life that actually knows about her escualting behavior is her best-friend Christine who isn't exactly welcome in the Hamilton household since they believe she is responsiable for the hit and run accident that killed their young daughter Laura five years ago... However a shocking secret is about to be revealed that will forever change everyone's life.
At the heart of the Hamilton family is dooting, loving and opinonated mother Cassandra "Cassie" Mulberry-Hamilton a 53 year old former state supreme court judge who gained fame for her 1987 decision that allowed a 13 year old rape victim to have an abortion without the consent of her parents... This gained attention because her very own husband, Grant Hamilton II, who was the consverative lawyer who was defending the girls parents in their attempt to stop the abortion. Cassie is currently entering a new phase in her life as she has decided to step-down as a judge and run for state senate as the Democratic canidate, which would actually put her in direct oppossition with her now ex-husband, Grant who is the Republican canidate for the same seat which is currently vacant after a long-time senate favorite passed away...
