Anyone here own a horse? If so, I have a question for you....this may seem really stupid, and I'm embarassed that I don't know...but what is the difference between a canter and a trot? Isn't a canter faster? I'm not sure....is there anything else besides a canter, trot, and walk?

I'm asking because I have a job working with horses, and I work with veterinarians, and I know all this like medical knowledge about horses that I've picked up just from hanging out with vets, but since I've never owned a horse or ever really hung out with them or anything, I don't known alot of the little "basic" stuff about horses...and it kind of seems like the vets just assume I know this stuff, and it seems kind of embarassing to ask...especially since whenever I'm working my co-worker us always someone who is like a horse expert.

Well, a Canter is a comfortable, three-beat rhythimic rideing gait.

A trot is a two-beat gait.

A walk is the slowest gait.

I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'm reading it out of a book. I bet you could have done that!

I know nothing about horses even though I live right in the middle of the Bluegrass, some of the most beautiful horse farms, but I would try seeing if the Kentucky Horse Park or Keeneland (a race track) has a web site that would have some background info on horses, or maybe a link to where you could get your question answered. At least the Horse Park should have something.

I had a horse once. I didn't know much about horses. I was unknowledgeable about them. Like you are Bootsy. Not stupid. Go easy on yourself there. Anyway, the horse sure knew that I didn't know what I was doing. I ended up trading it to a lady who was a horse officionado for practically nothing before it killed me. I don't blame you for being embarrassed but you'd better get over it and start asking questions or those ol' horses are going to have their way with you. Sorry I don't have any answers for you other than that.
