On the Brady Bunch as you all know and on The Partridge Family, the two oldest girls of the family had to deal with the life-threatening issue of getting braces...  Are there any other characters that behaved in that manner when dealing with braces?

They made it seem so terrible to get braces. They instilled in me that when one gets braces, life is over. I can't tell you how excited I was when I learned I was getting them. I was ecstatic.

Seeing the episode last night when Laurie Partridge refused to smile was so stupid.

Not only that, they make it seem like when you get braces it happens in one day. NOT AT ALL. You need to get x-rays, then you need to get spacers. You then need to wear those spacers for some time so that there are gaps for the brackets to slide in. Not a quick process. I had to wear my spacers for two weeks before I got my brackets.

I don't remember any characters bitching about braces. I do remember in the second season of The Cosby Show, the first episode, Denise was talking about how wearing braces ruined her social life(she had her braces taken off that season.) I can't remember if Tootie gripped about wearing them, i'm sure she did. But I thought braces looked totally cool on Tootie.

Yeah, that stupid response by Denise "Mom and Dad ruined my life when they made me get braces..." I think that is what she said. How can that ruin your life? I had braces for 4 years and it was worth it. Now I have a million dollar smile (it seemed like that is what my dad paid for dental and orthodontic care  ) that will last me a lifetime. Big deal, I will take 4 years of metal on my teeth in exchange for the compliments I have received for my smile. THANX DAD!!!!!

I loved Cliff's response after she whined about her social life. To be honest, judging by the first season, I really think that Denise's social life wasn't ruined. Denise was little Miss Popular throughout the series, so having braces didn't hurt her social life to me.

It was the truth when he said it. I mean, she made it seem like they tied her up and forced the orthodontist to put them on her. True, she was miss popular...I didn't see her suffering at all...except later on in life when she couldn't handle college and the real world.

Denise did suffer later on because she was stupid. The old Denise had her head on straight. This idiot later on made just as much since as Vanessa's semi fro.

You said what I have said before!!! I don't know why they felt the need to make her "stupid". That semi-fro of Vanessa's aka GUMBY fro was horrible wasn't it?

Did any sitcom boys get braces? I think Paul Pfeiffer had headgear and what about Urkel?

Paul Pfeiffer definitely did, although we never learned how he got them, unlike Marcia "I'm ugly ... ugly ... UGLY!!!" Brady. The only other sitcom boy I can recall is another Brady, specifically Bobby. I saw his "tinsel teeth" towards the end of The Brady Bunch.

As for Steve Urkel, I do not recall at all whether he got them since I was paying too much attention to his latest inventions.

Bobby Brady did have braces but obviously his were real. Didn't Cindy (Susan) and Jan (Eve) have braces as well?

They probably made Denise stupid because of her bratty behavior on and off the set plus her falling out with Mr. Cosby.

BTW: Yes, Vanessa fro was so stupid. If Mr. Cosby booted actors from the show because of their hair, he should have done the same to her!

I was so mad when I found out that Cockroach was booted from the show because of his hair but the following season they let Tempest and her black version of The Bride of Frankstein do set foot on the set!

I keep reading abt that here (cockroach's hair)...I am flabbergasted that an actor was dismissed because of his hair?????? What is up with that?

Because Mr. Cosby wanted the male actors to have gentlemen cuts, even the guest stars. Remember Theo's 1980's version of Roger Thomas friend Howard? He along with the hispanic kid from 227 was booted off the show because of this rule.

What he really needed was lady-like hairdo clause so we didn't have to see Vanessa's goofy looking hair and Denise's dirty dreds(why must my mixed people think because they are half black, can pull this look off? Only Bob Marley can!)

He was the only bi-racial who can pull it off, all the other bi-racials couldn't do. How would I look with my curly blonde hair in dreds? Funny as hell!
