I really, really, really miss Mr. T and Tina (http://www.tv.com/mr.-t-and-tina/show/5207/summary.html?q=Mr.%20T%20and%20Tina&tag=search_results;title;0). It was one of those short-lived tv shows in the 1970's that did not make it. I wish I could see it on dvd! Any ideas? Has anyone else hear of this show besides me?

The show did a crossver episode with Welcome Back Kotter I guess to draw an audience but it didn't help much. I don't think you wll ever see this show again since it aired during a time when lots of people didn't VCR's in their house and the fact that it had not enough eps to make it to syndication

Technically The WBK episode was the pilot for Mr T, but it aired only one day before Mr T and Tina aired it's show. It was the season opener of Kotter. "Tina" isn't in it, just "Mr T".

VCRs were brand new at that point and they were big clunky machines that were very expensive. It would be years before VCRs became commonplace in homes. I never even saw one until around 1979.

I also wish I could see that teleplay that she starred in w/ Pat Morita and Cloris Leachman called, "Blind Alleys" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0343433/). I recall watching this show in the late seventies.
Frankly, it wasn't very good, but I would like to see it again, too.
I don't know of ANYONE who has it.
Here's a suggestion. I'm finding the best way to see obscure
shows is to purchase the films when they pop up on the
auction block, OR find someone who had a UMATIC machine or a BETA and
recorded a lot of sitcoms in the seventies. I've acquired CALUCCI'S DEPARTMENT, BILLY (w/Steve Guttenberg), ON OUR OWN and STRUCK BY LIGHTNING from Beta lovers.
That'd be the only ways. The show is way too obscure for anyone
to put it out commercially.
Dr. Thong
10-23-2006, 08:20 AM
The only way they'd put it out is if they thought an obscure sitcom starring "Mr. Miyagi" from The Karate Kid would move units. I agree there should be a cable channel devoted to showing sitcom obscurities and short-lived programs.
Wasn't there something along those lines a few years back, where they showed programs like Working Stiffs, a short-lived sitcom from 1979 starring Jim Belushi and Michael Keaton?? I thought some of those shows aired somewhere at one time.

Mr. T and Tina was a terrible show. TV.com lists a total of nine episodes, I guess only the first five aired. I remember one episode where Mr. T invented an anti-gravity belt. The special effects were so bad that you could clearly see the wires attached to the person that was wearing the belt as they were "floating" in the air. Absolutely terrible. The one thing this show had going for it was Susan Blanchard. She was cute back in those days.

I also remember this show and have spent the last 30 years trying to forget it but to no avail. It haunts me still. Maybe I need psychiatric help.
As shows go it belongs in the "so bad it's good" category, everything about it was plain rotten but like a bad car wreck you couldn't look away.
Around the same time there was a show called Holmes & Yo-Yo which was almost as bad. Almost. But nothing could beat Tina. And nothing ever will.

Holmes and Yo-Yo on DVD? Maybe there's hope for Mr. T & Tina after all.
What a really want to see is a show dedicated to these obscure shows but TV Land has tried that and won't try again it seems. I would even settle for a one-time 2 hour special, it would be perfect for Halloween come to think of it. Call it "The Graveyard of Dead Sitcoms". Some guy in vampire makeup could crawl out of a coffin waving an old TV Guide and introduce the next one. There's a big market for "so bad their good" movies like Plan 9 From Outer Space so why not for TV programs too? A failed show in the 70s likely got as many millions of viewers as a Top 10 show gets today. There must be legions of people walking around with the memory of this stuff in their heads. We NEED to see them again.
Maybe some TV exec will read this and see the light in time for next Halloween. How else are we ever going to see Hello Larry, CPO Sharkey, or Me And The Chimp again? Meanwhile I am waiting patiently by my TV for their re-appearance and will wait 30 more years if I have to....

I doubt you will ever see it again. The episodes may not even exist anymore. And if they do, they will not be aired on TV again or be issued on DVD. If you are that desperate, I suggest you try to find old 16mm films of the episodes. But even finding that is probably a longshot. I don't know if Mr. T & Tina was ever put on 16mm film. I know you can find some shows from the early 70's on 16mm. Or you can try to contact the TV film archive at UCLA, or other places that archive old TV shows. You could even try to contact the ABC network which originally aired the show 30 years ago. Do some searching on the internet, there is a world of information out there. Maybe you can contact someone who would be able to help you obtain the episodes or at least steer you in the right direction. I imagine there is probably someone on this planet who has the episodes. Those are just a few suggestions.
I will agree with your opinion about those other shows you mentioned. Perhaps the creators of those shows were watching Mr. T & Tina back in the day and got a negative influence. TV is really bad these days. There are very few shows that are actually worth watching.

Although not a Mr. T & Tina fan, I know how it is when there's an old rare show you like and want to see it again. One old show I would love to see again is the late 60's musical comedy That's Life with Robert Morse & EJ Peaker. But I'm afraid those episodes are gone forever as well.

Now I don't know if they will answer you back about an unsuccessful show from 30 years ago, but all you can do is try. Don't feel too bad if you get no response. I think they mostly reply to inquiries about their current shows.

The website is www.cinema.ucla.edu. Send E mail inquiries regarding television shows to: tvinfo@ucla.edu. It looks like Dan Einstein is the person you want to contact.

Lee, I took one of your suggestions and e-mailed ABC from their website for "Mr. T & Tina" and one of their other old shows to be put on video, and the response I got was this:
As you can imagine, we receive thousands of messages a day from our viewers and while we appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback
regarding our programming, we are not able to respond to each one
directly.
We encourage you to continue to communicate with us!
ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS:
-- Many of your show-specific questions can be answered on the ABC.com
website:
Go to ABC.com
Go to the top and click on "Shows"
Go down the list and click on the name of the show you are seeking
information on
-- Answers to other questions such as show addresses, internships, etc.
can be found in our "Questions & Answers" section:
Go to ABC.com
Go to the bottom of the screen and click on "FAQ"
Again, thank you for contacting ABC.
Note: The Company's long-established policy does not allow us to
accept for review or consideration any ideas, suggestions, or creative
materials not solicited by us or our subsidiaries. Therefore, in the event
that you have submitted such content, please be advised that the
submission has been forwarded to the Company's legal department for handling.
This email has been sent to you from an outbound email account that
will not accept inbound mail. Therefore, please do not respond to this
email.
So, in other words, they just sent me back a formletter by e-mail, and will NOT honor my requests, it seems like. :(

Yea Troi, I didn't think ABC would be much help. If you register with tvshowsondvd.com, you can request to have your favorite shows issued on DVD. I doubt there is much public interest in Mr. T & Tina, but at least that's one other thing you could do. Have you tried to contact UCLA film & TV archive? Perhaps you could place a classified ad on line or in a publication for people who seek rare TV shows. I think it's going to be difficult for you to find these episodes, I've given you all the suggestions I can think of. I guess no one here from Sitcoms Online has the episodes either, otherwise someone would have contacted you.

Good Luck, Troi Tribble.
Years ago, in the 1980s when I was searching for an old Tomorrow Show ep, I was directed to one place after another, to be lied to by idiots or know-nothings --one woman told me that all the tapes were erased. I knew that was a lie, because TV networks stopped doing that, by that time. The TV Museum in Chicago had all the eps. I haven't visited the one in Beverly Hills in years, so don't know if what I want is there.
I wouldn't mind seeing the show again. I only recall one bit, at the very end of one show where Mr T is flying around and around the room, with Susan Blanchard running around in circles under him. Maybe that was the anti-grav episode? I think he was proving that he could fly without the belt! I had that image in my mind, but had missed most of that ep, and was wondering what that was all about, for years! :dizzy:

Why come here and LIE? You get that posters HOPES up knowing that whoever you are talking don't have sh*T-lol That statement just sounds like BullSH=-"I can' locate it"
I have Checking In and Park Place but I can'tl locate them either"
Look, you really are a moron. Not everyone started collecting 2 years ago like you and not everyone is anal retentive (look it up) and has everything catalogued like you. The person I'm talking about has been collecting for 30 years, going back to the 3/4 days. They are not very organized and many of their tapes are unlabeled. If you want, email me and you can contact them yourself and let them tell you. Then you can apologize to me, jackass.

She has a Holmes and YoYo episode as well.

Well, it doesn't have to be "Physically disabled", maybe some people have OTHER circumstances in their life which do NOT enable them to be as fortunate as you! Please show some compassion and understanding! :(

Look let me give you some advice, if you really want this show then you have to find a way to get it on your own. Simple as that. I would have never found the show, "Here and Now" and "The Sinbad Show" without being AGRESSIVE and CREATIVE. So if you want this show then u have to figure out a way to get it on your own instead of asking everyone else how can you get it. Remember, the things you really want in life you have to figure out on your own how to get it.

Exactly. Or else you can sit and complain, woe is me. Let's see how well that works out for you. As I'm sure you know, TVResearcher, there are lots of people who want stuff handed to them without having to get off their asses and do some work. Sounds like this person fits that category.

I had a feeling that this thread didn't go to seven pages just to talk about the pleasant memories of this show which I can remember going and coming fast way back when. :)
I never caught any of the episodes but I did see two of the cast members, June Angela and Gene Profanto a year later in the 1977 Broadway revival of "The King And I" starring Yul Brynner. I'm sure the both of them were happier to be there then still being stuck in that forgettable sitcom!

Someone must have recorded it off ABC when it first aired in September 1976 on one of their early home video recorders...and that's why you're getting to see it!! :)
As I've said before, all of the episodes that were taped WERE saved, and are probably sitting in Time-Warner's vault, waiting to be resurrected. "MR. T AND TINA" was probably syndicated in Europe and other international markets; very few TV series lasting 13 episodes or less are "abandoned" anymore, much less destroyed.
