Hello again, everyone! I have returned to join all of you again after a lengthy, and very enjoyable, vacation. I have spent the summer in Italy, home of the 2006 World Cup champions, where a few of the locals are still celebrating. Overall, I had a good time. The weather was usually sunny and the beaches were great. The one downside I noticed is the culture shock that hits you the moment you step off the plane. The way of life there is a lot different from what we're all used to here in North America. For example, Italian TV sets have only 7 channels (all the better to spend more time outside). Also, most stores there open at 7:00 am and close for lunch at 1:00 pm, only to open again at 4:30 or 5:00! When there is a chance to shop, I've noticed that Italian stores carry items with some rather unusual brand names. Here's a few that I've come across, and yes, they actually exist (brand names in quotes):
---"Fonzies" potato chips
---"Sonny Bono" clothing stores (Their slogan: "We're trendy!")
---"Osama" calculators and other school supplies (Oh, those poor children!)
and my personal favorite:
---TOILET CANDY!!!!!!
As great as the trip was, I am very happy to be back home. I'm looking forward to another interesting TV season full of fun and hopefully some lively debates. It's taken me a little while to get used to some of the changes that have happened since the summer ended, but now I have finally set up my fall viewing schedules of shows that I would like to watch or tape for at least the next couple of months and here they are:
