Oh for CHRIST'S SAKE PEOPLE!!! I know I just said God's name in vain and you know what, I'm sorry, but this is just going FAR OVERBOARD!!! It seems like every 3 weeks we have a topic like this. And how come it ALWAYS has to be Nancy?? Apparently people either like everyone else but her, or they just wanna make NancyMcKeonRox pissed off! I mean I don't think I have ever seen a topic saying "Kim can't act" or "Lisa sucks at acting" (do NOT get ideas!) but I just wonder why! Everyone has their own opinions, like me, who thinks Nancy McKeon is an extremely good actress but shes a little overrated. But God help us, people who post these things either are just looking for a good laugh or a good fight

This may come as a shock to people, but it is entirely possible to not like someone for whatever reason and at the same time not be jealous of them at all!

Here's my problem with the Nancy Cult: can't even one of you defend Nancy without personally attacking the person who spoke out against her? I do agree that posts like this serve no point other than to cause an argument, but look at it this way: the poster was a guest....could we give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he isn't a regular member incognito, and maybe he really didn't know this would cause a big fight, and maybe he really was just curious what was up with everyone worshipping her?

If you all go around professing non-stop, near frightening levels of devotion to a little known actress, you have to expect people to question it.

Read MARKCOOPER's post. Did he personally attack any of you? NO! Did he say "everyone who likes Nancy McKeon is stupid"? NO! So why attack him? It only makes you look more silly....I have no problem with defending Nancy, but you don't further your cause by picking on your enemies. The only way to further your cause is to post clear, thought-out posts on why you appreciate Nancy.

I read the "subject" of the post and the
"email" he wrote, I was going by the
"subject" title that he wrote, "Nancy
McKeon can't act", he could have put it
in a nicer way. That's what I was talking

That almost got the board shut down. I know this is not the FOL board but for some reason everytime we fight I always have an obsurd feeling that the fight will lead back to that topic. Why Can't We All Live at Peace With Our Favs Shows and Actresses/Actors. It just seems to me Nancy (IMVHO) is overated, but don't bash me for that, it's just my opinion. I didn't say he didn't say "dat", however, I think the real meat and potatoes of all posts come in the actual body of the message. Everyone posts things like that in their subject lines. Just look at the "Best/Worst Actresses in the World" subject line. We all know that what is inside merely reflects people's opinions on the actors/actresses, even though it doesn't say so in the subject line.

Why do we not make that same assumption here?

Listen to Bootsy!!! People, she's the voice of reason here!

Now, I'm just going to say what I want to say...
I think Nancy McKeon is overrated. Most of the Nancy Cult( most which those ridiculous usernames that are WAY too long) can't back up their opinions as well as other's can. So how can other's with differing opinions understand where you are coming from? That is why she's overrated. That, and she was one great character on a classic television show.
I don't enjoy The Division, nor her tv movies. But I do respect her immensely for what she did with Jo Polniaczek.

So...in the end, I'm apart of the Jo Polniaczek cult. So there.

If this topic gets closed, it won't have anything to do with MARKCOOPER's original message - it has to do with the 45 responses from people who are too insecure to deal with the fact that someone has a different opinion than them!

Yes, I like Nancy McKeon. Yes, I enjoy watching FOL and The Division. But, come on, Meryl Streep ain't exactly loosing any sleep worrying that she may have to compete with Nancy for a role, if you catch my drift.

Nancy is NOT overrated. More like UNDERRATED! I mean, how often is it you see a magazine with her on the cover (besides FOL related stuff)? Hmm? She has AMAZING acting talent. As I said before, the person who posted it was a guest. Unless you can prove to me incontrovertibly that MARKCOOPER is really a regular poster who went incognito, then I will continue to defend him. He may have posted it not knowing how much of a ruckus it would cause, if he isn't a regular poster. It would be quite different if I had posted the topic, and in that case I would agree with you, that it serves no purpose other than to start an argument. But you shouldn't hang MARKCOOPER unless you know that he knew it would cause a problem.

I never said I had an answer for everything, but I obviously have more answers than you, since you have yet to come up with a bunch of reasons why you like Nancy, other than mentioning in passing that she is an amazing actress before your post turned into a string of curses, threats, and putdowns.

I really do mean that but also, In a roundabout way, I'm nudging you all to diversify your interests somewhat. Getting a big head of steam over wheather or not someone likes your favorite actress is a drag on your energy supply. And having more interests will make you more interesting people. You can admire Nancy and chew gum at the same time.

Okay, I've been pretty quiet back here, besides making a few jokes, about all of this. I've just been waiting for people to cool down to respond.

Several people have asked why Nancy McKeon fans like her. Well, I can't speak for everyone, but I will answer for me.

The reason I originally started to like Nancy is because of The Facts of Life. I liked her character. I could relate to her character growing up. As I got older, Nancy moved on to bigger and better things. The has done another sitcom, she has done many movies, and now she is in a drama.

She has shown that she is not just a one hiy wonder who can only portray one type of character. She has spread her wings and has covered many different genre's in her acting career.

I do believe, that some people do not give her the respect that she deseves while at the same time, some people give her too much. So maybe she is both overrated and underrated at the same time.

Now then, onto the next topic at hand, whether or not the guest purposly stirred a hornets nest. I believe the answer to that is no. The reason I believe that is because the fact that the post was here and NOT on the FOL board. I really think that MARKCOOPER just had a viable question he wanted to ask and not get shot down for it, that's why the post is here. Granted, he could have chosen a better topic name, but lets just act our ages here and be civil to each other.

You all swear, cuss, complain, and call everyone who is not a Nancy worshiper ignorant and obsurd names. And you know what? I think that is childish. Over these past years different people have told me that they hate Lisa. They say she sucks, can't act, is a "Jesus Freak" or "Holy Roller" etc, you get my point. I have just learned to ignore everything, because what I think is what I, and only I, think of her. You all have to learn not to get mad at people who just don't like Nancy!! Sadly, I suspect those in question have not learned a thing. Next time something like this comes up, I'm betting now that we will have the same problems. Any takers? Mark please don't be scared off. I am glad I am not the only one that is appalled. For a little while there, I felt like I was a one-woman army here. I appreciate everyone I have quoted in this post and any others I may have missed for speaking up on the side of sanity. There is no way anyone here would ever learn anything if I were the only one trying to convince them of the childishness, because they'd most likely write me off as just some bitch with an attitude (which they probably already do but oh well).

BTW, thanks to Ags2000 and Max who were one of the few people to actually answer the question.

And lastly, I just want to say to all of you in the Nancy Cult....whether you think so or not, I do not hate any of you. I do think you are childish sometimes though, and that childishness brings an element of hatred to the board. I hope that you do not hate me, but if you do, I suppose that is just the way it'll have to be. Gee, I've been gone for two days, and look at this.

Anyway, I think Nancy McKeon did a wonderful job with the role of Jo Polniaczek. However, her television movies suck(they all do, get over it), and The Division is mediocre.
All actresses that were once great characters on sitcoms someday turn to those pesky tv movies. It's true. And if that happens, it's not a good sign. Maybe there's a reason for Nancy McKeon taking numerous tv movie roles. Maybe because she isn't such a great actress after all. Ever think about that?
She's a great sitcom actress, not the best actress in the world...

Well, Cokies I have to disagree with you on one small little part. I'm not a Nancy McKeon fanatic, but I do think she did a wonderful job in "The Tracey Thurman Story". That was an emotional part and she did do wonderful in that part.

I've seen FOL, and wasn't too impressed. Maybe I just caught a few of the bad episodes- I don't know. I tried watching The Division and I apparently caught a bad episode of that too..... Peace yall!

Word, Cokies. I watched the "In My Sisters Shadow" movie tonight, and the only emotion and depth Nancy was able to portray was "hey look everyone, I'm pathetic and feel really sorry for myself". Not exactly compelling. As I said before, Meryl Streep ain't exactly losing sleep worrying that she may not win a role over NMK.

And that's all I've gotta say about that. I'm pretty close to attacking a couple of you on a personal level, because you seem like the most ignorant, spoiled little brats I have ever run into, but I'm going to stop right here before mentioning names.

Your high opinions about Nancy are not the issue. I don't even have an opinion about Nancy. I've barely ever seen her act. Since this is a public board and the rude tone of the comments over the length of this thread appear, similarly, in other threads, that's the problem. If you read the now 12 pages of comments you'd see that lots of us have a problem with having to navigate through the curseing and 'winner takes all' tirades that some of the Nancy fans scream at us.

What Makes Nancy So Special? If I Posted That Carol Burnett was a dumb person who can't talk right and is dumber then Jethro Bodine's Bottem, I would only get (at the most) 5-10 replies, If ANY!

Also, I know this has nothing to do with the topic, but if Nancy IS SO GOOOOD, why did it take her 12 years and more then a few cheesy movies (The Tracy Thurman one is the exclusion) to get into another series that lasts more then 1 season?

Bootsy, you are speaking very wisely and I am behind you 100%, but please remember, they are just kids. For whatever reason, they have chosen to be immature and think that the world revolves around them. There are people on this board who are half their age and are acting much more like an adult than the Nancy Mckeon Rox/Forever pair is, and to those people, I commend them. Why do these two act out? Because they are spoiled by their parents, they think the world revolves around them, whatever. I don't care what the reason is, because there is no way I can change it. But whatever the case, DO NOT ATTACK PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD! PERIOD! You cannot go through life behaving this way. You are going to meet people who disagree with you. It is good that you are passionate about your opinions, but for god's sake, find an opinion that is worth fighting over. An actress who was on a mediocre sitcom (don't flame me, because it's my favorite, but it was mediocre), on a bunch of sub-par TV movies (the movie biz wasn't exactly leaping to cast her in feature films after these), and on a series that had to be picked up by a niched cable channel because no network would touch it, IS NOT WORTH HURTING PEOPLE OVER!!!!! What if I were to say that I thought you were a couple of little bitches because you don't like to wear Kenneth Cole shoes? Sounds pretty stupid, doesn't it? No more stupid than what you are doing.

Your point? The Division is made up of more than just Nancy McKeon. So what does it have to do with this? If you want to get technical,and talk about 'The Division'. My friend Jeanie (whom also has posted) and I have a 'The Division' site and it hasn't even been open two months yet and over 2250 hits so far. So just goes to show that 'The Division' IS popular. (Before I changed the layout on the Division site it was up over 15,000 hits.) So you can't actually go by how many posts on the Division Message board they are. Yeah, I grant you it's been slow lately,but that doesn't mean anything. Besides 'The Division' is a newer show. Not even a year old. Okay for one A lot of people do not worship Nancy But they have great taste cause i will tell you in my opinion she is the only actresses that when I watch she draws me in and makes it so believeable for me. I also think that she has enough talent to deserve the same recognition as those actresses. Also my opinion is I would rather watch Nancy any day of the week over some of the others cause like I said she can make it believeable for me. If you want to disagree I could care less that is your right and this is America where everyone has the freedom of speech and the right to see whoever they want act. I also think she has more talent then a lot of the others out there that are in the business. Again if you don't think she can act then my words is don't watch her. No one is forcing you to. I know I don't watch what I don't like. Instead of stating that she can't act I say turn the channel of you don't like her.. My opinion... YOu do not have to agree that is what is nice about this being that land of the free..... One more thing I read somewhere on here that someone thinks Nancy is overrated. That is fine that is her opinion.. Mine is she is very underrated for the quality of work that she has put out. I think she deserves an EMMY for that last performance in Intervernion....

Okay my opinion is as follows... One I have never been to Chico and the Man's message board and yes I have seen the show it was just okay. My opinion. Also the General Sitcoms Board I have not visited either. The only boards I visit are The Division, The Division Fan Fiction Board, Facts of Life, Facts of Life Fan Ficition and now this Chit Chat. This is my opinion but those are the only ones that interest me at all and I have seen a lot of the shows on the boards that are listed. See I have watched a lot of TV and the thing that brought me to these message boards in the first place was Facts of Life and now they have the wonderful Division Mesasge Board. So I will keep on visiting those wonderful sites and I hope all the others go the the sites that interest them also.... I know which those are for me.. I know what I like and The Division is a very good show. I wouldn't miss it. My opinion and that is what is great about living in America we all have a right to our opinions......

Thank you for consisely summing up the 15 pages, tootieismyfav. This is not about agreeing to disagree over Nancy's acting abilities, as some seem to think. I would not have carried on an argument for 15 pages over something as stupid as that.

Yeah, she's a know-it-all, but hey, she knows what's she's talking about. She backs herself up with clear and concise textual support. I cannot say that's true with everyone.

Just to set the record straight, on the first page of the board I was joking about the minority thing. But about the part about her not being able to act, I disagree. She is a great actress. She is not my favorite on the show, but the acting is great.

Point well taken. I already said, she isn't my top fave, but she is really great. I thought someone was saying she can't act to oppose the opinion about her being the whole show. I think everyone played a part in making the show a success. I know I'm part of a minority when it comes to liking the first season.

Respect isn't being called an "asswipe" or whatever insult they come up with. Courtesy, that's all anyone should ask. There is a difference here. I didn't say that the Nancy Cult had to care about other people's opinions, I simply said they should respect them and not jump on them for expressing them. Did I jump on Nancy McKeon Forever for calling me a bitch? No. Did I call her nasty names back? No.

As far as not knowing whether or not respecting someone's opinion is the right thing to do or not, well all I can say it this. Many wars in human history were brought about at least in part by people not listening to each other and not respecting other's opinions. The Nancy Cult has a lynchmob-mentality, which is something that I don't think you should be proud of, since that kind of mentality lead to the deaths of Reginald Denney, Matthew Shephard, and countless others. I hope none of you claim to be Christians, or religious in anyway for that matter, because if so you need to get your asses to Church or Synagogue or whatever if you think being nice is not the right thing to do.

First off, my deepest respect for Bootsy-way to go lady for keeping a level head this whole time. As an observor I must say you are one of the few people who have been listening to what has been said this whole time, and trying to keep a topic on subject isn't easy. Kudos!

Secondly, and this is no disrespect for any of you...THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE FUNNIEST HOUR I HAVE EVER SPENT READING POSTS!!! It's hilarious to see one person swear and another person get so riled up over a simple post that started it all. I agree with whoever said that comment about liking blue and saying that because of his opinion everyone should thrash him for it...s/he's right. And just for that..."I HATE BLUE! There isn't a better colour in the world than RED and if you think BLUE IS THE BEST, you need your HEAD EXAMINED...or maybe you're just colourblind!!!!" LOL...that was a joke people-LAUGH IT UP! (In all reality, I adore blue, it's one of my favourite colours, but that wouldn't do to prove a point here.)

Third, whether I get thrashed or not, my opinon of Nancy is thusly-she's ok. She's not DA BOMB and she doesn't SUCK...she's "ok." Hey, she's working isn't she? And about the comment of anyone who thinks they can do better they'd like to see it? LOL...well I would, but she works in a field I'm not into. I do theatre, not tv or film. And right now I can't show anyone anything because I'm disabled. (Go ahead and attack me if you'd like...I couldn't care less right now, it's my opinion and that's what a messageboard is for...so thrashing me is only your opinion.)

Oh yeah and as to whether Markcooper the guest knew/didn't know what a ruckus his post would cause...or if he WANTED a fight...I doubt those were his intentions. If they were, I bet he's sitting there laughing at you too for fighting over it. I mean come on! 16 pages worth SO FAR and only maybe 5 posts have answered his question? If he did want a fight, you gave it to him full force. If he didn't he probably said "whoops!" and feels bad. Either way, did anyone ask him? *snickers* He's only posted twice in here, and it was HIS topic!

Anyway, sorry if this post is too long, I really had to interject my 2 pennies on the subject. And I had to thank you all for the enjoyably entertaining reading.

PS-if I went to a board that had people sticking up for me with swearing and thrashing other people, I personally *would* be embarassed. I know that's how a board for a fellow actor of mine got shut down. Anyone with different opinions on him was verbally abused, and he didn't like it so he personally pulled the plug. *shrugs* No one's to say Nancy would do the same, because everyone is different, but hey...it's another opinion.
