I recently got a few episodes recorded off of NBC and there were a few segments on there I had never seen before. I'm unsure if I just hadn't caught them or if Lifetime ever aired them so wanted to see if any of you remember them. First one has an airdate of 11/24/93 and involved a home improvement scam targeting the elderly. They pressure the elderly people into doing home improvement work and then charge outrageous fees and the elderly people feel they have no choice but to pay. The case they profiled the poor elderly man was conned out of almost his entire life savings of nearly $100,000. It was such an infuriating segment and they say the reason they target the elderly is they think they'll die soon and won't be around to testify.

The second one aired on 1/12/94 and is about the missing persons case of Charles Horvath. He was 20 and from England when he decided to go hitchhiking through Canada. He kept in regular contact with his family during this time and was due to meet up with them later on in Hong Kong for a vacation. His contact ended abruptly and he didn't show up in Hong Kong. There is conflicting evidence, some that says he's still alive and some people who insists he's dead. I did a search and he apparently is still missing. Here's his profile:

I sure do! From memory the guy who rips off ederly couples with a home repair scam is name is Dan Marino. I have the update on tape and it think it's on the retail box sets as a special feature becoz he was the 100th captured fugitive.

I also have the Charles Horvath on DVD recorded from Channel 10 Australia years n years ago (it was on that list I gave you ;)). It aired with (if I'm not miskaten) David Gordon Smith and John Henderson. A couple of interesting segments there.

This was the case were the bail for these guys was reduced by half for some stupid reason and they skipped town.

Ahh yes, I posted this in the UM Lines thread

My favorite Stack line by far is

"It wasn't long before the Nelson's posted bail and as predictable as the sunrise they skipped town"

I saw their segment profiles on the UM site, however I have never seen the segment nor their names brought up around here. Is this a hard-to-obtain segment? I'm quite interested.

I am surprised these two segments are not spoken of more, especially the latter. You should be able to find the last one on youtube, maybe even the first one, as well. The first case (the bird case, as some call it) is a bit harder to find.

I believe they both aired on lifetime. In any event, i have both of them available for trading.
