Any doctors around here? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

I think I have torn a mucsle, but I need to be absolutely sure before I tell my parents or coach. I really don't wanta miss ball season, so has anyone ever torn a muscle before? Any words of wisdom? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

It's in my calf, so I can't walk without hurting, so any advice would be mucho helpful...

THANKS!

I have. If you ever have an injury, I am most likely the person to ask, as I have probably experienced it!

Is it swollen? What makes you think it's torn, on not just pulled? I would recommend icing it for an hour and also putting some heat on it for an hour. Try stretching it out. Do a couple of calf raises by grabbing a phone book or standing on the edge of a stair, toes on the edge, and your heels hanging down low. Step up on the toes, return your heel so it is lower than your toes, but not touching the ground. After 10 reps, your muscles will be tired, but if you are in agonizing pain, go and see a doctor. They aren't going to tell you anything that I haven't, except maybe take some advil or something.

Let me know how it turns out!

It's been like this for two days. Yes, it is swollen and I feel a little knot in it when I touch it. I did the calf raises about half an hour ago and my leg is STILL killing me. I've been taking advil consistently since yesterday, and I really am not fond of the doctor's office.

The doctors is a horrible, horrible place! And hospitals are dangerous! I wouldn't recomend either of them to my worst enemy! But if you are in pain you do have to do something. I suggest you take as much advise from Colly as possible. Then... get a doctor to look at it.

Did it hurt only when you walked on it, or did it bother you when you sat down as well. Mine only hurts when I'm standing on it, or when I attempt to tighten that muscle. Any help appreciated! Coily, I'm still doing what you said http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for all the help guys.

Ks,
If the muscle is too badly injured you won't be able to play. If it isn't then you need to rehab it as best you can and move on. Tell your coach and parents. Hard to diagnose over the chit chat board.

I'm going to have to disagree a little with Doc Coily2. You shouldn't stretch an injured muscle. Stretchng is great to prevent injury but antagonizes an injury. Ice is very good but not for a solid hour. Try ice massage. put 8 oz styrofoam cups of water in the freezer. Tear off top and massage all around the injured area for ten to fifteen minutes several times a day. You might not need a doctor but a massage therapist, or if your team has a trainor one or both of them could be helpful.
Good luck!

It killed when I stood up or tried to walk on it. When I sat down it wasn't that bad but it still hurt

I've never torn a muscle nor do I know too much about it, but I would recomend that you do try to do too much with it or wait too long, because you can hurt it more than what it already is.

ks,

I'd go and see a doctor if I was you. There isn't much they're going to be able to do, except to give you a better diagnosis than I can, and perhaps a stronger prescription for the pain. It may just be a small strain that a week of taking easy will take care of!

Meanwhile, try icing it! I think you'll find that helps a bit! But don't ice it for anymore than an hour at a time.

Why so distrustful of doctors Max? I have never understood the fear of doctors thing...I don't get why people will suffer for weeks on end with an illness because of some irrational fear of doctors, when they could have gotten a prescription and been well already! Those kind of people only increase the chances of making those around them sick too! And I admit, hospitals are not my favorite places, but I wouldn't go so far as to categorize them as dangerous!

As for the torn muscle thing....I had a similar problem with my knee a while back, and the nurse told to me to use ice for 20 minute intervals throughout the day, to elevate it, to take ibuprofen and to apply pressure, as in an ace bandage. Hope that helps!

Ha! Ha! I suppose the doctors office is ok. It is the hospitals that I am terrified of. That is due partly to Diagnosis Murder and largely to my own personal encounters. Personally, I'd rather die than go to the hospital; of course my mother would never hear of that!

Hosptials don't scare me maybe because the hospital that I would go to (if I ever need to go to the hospital) my mom works there as a nurse and she always talks about the doctors at home and se far it been good things so I guess it's safe to go there if I ever need to
