Have you all heard about this most silly of all news bits concerning recent events? Apparently some pro-Bin Laden activists in Bangladesh created a poster collage of images of Bin Laden, and one of the pictures came from a "Bert is Evil" website, which are web sites that purport that Bert from Sesame Street is evil, and they edit pictures and stuff to show Bert doing evil things. Well, one of these pages had a picture of Evil Bert with Bin Laden, and it ended up on the poster.
"Azad Products, who manufactures the poster was not aware of the appearance of Bert in one of the collaged images that make up the poster. ``We got the images through e-mails and off the internet. We did not give the pictures a second look or realize what they signified until you pointed it to us,'' Mostafa Kamal, production manager, told The Associated Press. Sesame Street or Bert are hardly known in Bangladesh. "
The ironic thing is many of these people hate America because of the pervasiveness of American culture, and there, on their protest poster, appears a bastion of Americana.
BTW: There are two versions of this poster out. Some photographs have Bert on the poster, some photos do not. Of course the AP always claim to never edit their pictures. Some people think that the photos without Bert are the edited ones, because they think that it would be easier to remove Bert than to add him (and based on my limited knowledge of digitally editing pictures, I think I would have to agree.) the point is, I am fully aware of the chance that the whole thing could be a hoax, but whether it is or not, I still find it amusing.
