Whats the hurry?

For as long as I can remember stores have always started selling Halloween stuff in early September. Then right after that holiday is over they immediately skip Thanksgiving decorations and move on to Christmas! Now where is the point in that?

These people don't know how to take one day at a time. All they care about is making a profit! It is pathetic!

And how come Halloween is a holiday in America? Over here it's just a regular day.....except you get all these annoying kids at your door bugging you to give them food!

Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, I believe. And everyone I know celebrates it, but I'm sure there are people who don't. And Halloween isn't really a holiday over here, we don't get off school or anything, it's just that it's really big because the thought of getting candy from strangers for some reason appeals to little kids, I guess. And the stores cash in on that.

I never liked Halloween. The last time I went trick-or-treating was when I was 9. It just never appealed to me. But I do like passing out candy. All the little kids who are trick-or-treating for the first time are just so CUTE...

LOL I am only still 12, but I don't wanna go trick or treating this year. I love to pass out the candy though.

Yeah, the shops here really try to cash-in on Halloween too, selling masks and all that kind of stuff but people in Britain don't really go crazy for Halloween the way the Americans seem to. In fact, round where I live the kids have pretty much stopped going out all together. I think there were only about 3 kids that came to my door last Halloween.
Here's some trivia for you: In Scotland we don't say "Trick-or-Treating", we call it "guising" which comes from the word 'disguise'. Some folks here call it trick-or-treating but that's just cos that word has seeped over here from all the American influences on our society - TV shows and all that.

I agree, Max. The stores really force the issue. Christmas things begin popping up in September around here. It's ridiculous.

My friends and I just see this as another chance for a party lol. We are having a halloween party at my house this year because I have the biggest house and best sound system lol. I love all the kids that come to the house dressed up. Giving out candy is a blast as well.

Mossopp, Thanksgiving is just a U.S. thing. Some Native Americans see this as a day of mourning instead of a holiday. In my house, it's just another turkey day to watch football with the family.

You are absolutely right, Max. The profits are important to retail sales for certain. This is the reason I want to get OUT of the retail field. I do not own a store but I have been in a managerial position in retail for 7 years and 13 years in the retail field and Christmas is the most profitable time of year which is why they (the store owners) are in such a hurry to get the Christmas stock out early. Competition is fierce!
I agree with you and this is why I want out. Anybody have any ideas on another field of work please let me know.
